Virgo Month Ahead Horoscope - Results
The Following Month Ahead Horoscopes Were Found:

1st February 2003 - 28th February 2003

Virgos have a reputation for being the biddable workaholics of the zodiac and in February you get a chance to prove or disprove your reputation. The area of work and life-style is in the frame. Aside from working yourself into the ground for a specific event or just generally for your job, there could be some unexpected developments that put you in the position of chief decision-maker. There are only five more weeks to go before Uranus enters the zone of relating and before this planet arrives the decks have to be cleared. For some Virgos this means facing up to the fact that a job simply isn’t working out or some aspect of your existence isn’t conducive to your progress and happiness. And much as you may dislike rocking the boat and making your objections clear, being a doormat is no longer an option. You have to speak up. You have to make waves. And although the period between the 15th and 22nd is primed to produce changes on the work front and in regard to your life-style, especially for the 7th - 11th September birthdays, there could be other events that precipitate a change of course.

The home front is also a setting for much of the astrological action and although the configurations between the 15th and 22nd will enable you to resolve a long-standing problem, or at least get down to business, a domestic or property matter could spring a leak - and I’m speaking metaphorically here. Mars will move out of the domestic area of the chart early next month but while he is at the base of your chart it gives you an opportunity to get behind family and property issues. And if you experience some conflict in the process, consider it par for the course.

Venus in your fellow earth sign, Capricorn, could make for positive developments in a love affair or a creative project and a social event gives you an opportunity to steel the limelight. A mixed month but hardly dull.

1st January 2003 - 31st January 2003

The perfect start to the year would be a break away from your usual surroundings but this ideal proving impossible do your best to indulge yourself in those things that and with those people who elevate your mood and bring out the best in you. The area of self-expression and creativity is in the spotlight making this a prime time to give voice to your talents and feelings. Children are also a feature of this area of the horoscope, whether this translates as important developments with your offspring or the younger generation or whether it is your inner-child who needs attention. Fun and pleasure are vital to well-being and if you have worked yourself to a standstill before and during Christmas you are well overdue for some personal space and time. The added plus of putting enjoyment first and responsibilities second is that you release ideas and form understandings that make for positive changes in the coming months.

Whether or not Mercury's retrograde motion helps or hinders this process of self-discovery rather depends. Going back over old ground is a common feature of retrograde Mercury, so too are communication problems. But while you may suffer from the odd delay and missed message this could be countered by the acquisition of previously concealed information - information that helps put you on the right track.

This theme of revelation is echoed by Venus's conjunction to Pluto later in the month (25th) - an aspect guaranteed to bring anything hidden to the surface, whether in the way of feelings or information. And, especially if you have a birthday between the 8th and 18th September this is another of those moments when events dictate your course and the big decisions are made for you.

1st March 2003 - 31st March 2003

If you seem to have been hibernating for the last few months here come some lively configurations to bring you back to the land of the living. The sun and Mercury will be highlighting the relationship area of your horoscope so don’t for a moment think your destiny is in your own hands. Other people shape your life big time in March.

On the 10th the arrival of Uranus in Pisces means that for the next seven years or so this liberating planet will be transiting the zone of love and relating. On the plus side, Uranus will bring a new and better order to bear on the partnership front but on the minus side getting your love life to conform to expectations is going to prove difficult. (Make a copy of the phrase Vive la difference and put it where you can see it, daily.) Uranus in his role of liberator will also help you make the move out of relationships and commitments that are destructive, going nowhere or plainly and simply past their sell-by date.

Not only Uranus but also a string of key configurations will make March a month when the sudden and the unexpected will be par for the course. Offers and proposals come out of the blue and make life seem exciting and invigorating: likewise endings to long-standing situations arise equally suddenly and may temporarily throw you off balance. The period between the 8th and 18th is the one to watch for most of the thrills and spills. Indeed, the only full moon in Virgo this year takes place on the 18th, making this a key date for your diary. (Full moons are all about closure and completion so especially if you have a birthday on or near the 19th September this is an appropriate date to end a life chapter and begin a new one.)

Venus heads into your sign on the 27th and immediately hooks up to Uranus - attractions spring out of nowhere with this combination, especially if you have an August birthday; likewise relationships can get rather combustible when Venus and Uranus get together. But, as I said earlier, you’re emerging from hibernation, Virgos. Whatever part of the globe you inhabit spring is sprung!

1st April 2003 - 30th April 2003

Just when everyone else seems ready to relax you go into turbo-drive. Planets in the depth-charged eighth house of your horoscope will tend to make you more intense and situations more complex - perhaps more than is strictly necessary. This having been said, the alignments are mainly harmonious so it appears you will resolve your problems in the end and you may discover new-found depths to your understanding in the process. You may also encounter new-found depths in someone else!

Venus will be moving through the area of love and relating, urging you to share your feelings with others and exchange ideas and plans. Venus is the principle of love and harmony so for some Virgos this is the romantic high spot of the year - a time to meet Mr or Ms Right, to marry or to reinstate romance in a long-established relationship. All looks to be as smooth as proverbial silk until Venus begins to square up to Pluto (between the 7th and 13th), then to Saturn (between the 15th and 17th). Especially if you have a birthday on or near the 9th or 19th September this is yet another of those times when power struggles can develop and you tend to see the very best or the very worst of another person. By the time we get to Easter, the dust is beginning to settle so any confrontation or commotion may well have been a result of exhaustion and apprehension.

Finances are another area of interest in April and the periods around the 10th and the 29th look very positive indeed. Property sales and purchases are in the spotlight here and these would also be excellent dates upon which to seek financial advice and conduct monetary negotiations.

Enjoy your improved and empowering April stars.

1st May 2003 - 31st May 2003

Have you made any travel plans, been thinking of ways to expand your life’s horizons? Since late April the sun and Mercury have been edging their way through the ninth house of long distance matters so, in one way or another, you are being encouraged to think, bigger, further and better. The theme of expansion permeates the whole of May so while some Virgos will be packing their bags and heading away from their usual surroundings others will be discussing future plans, either in regard to career or in personal, financial and romantic terms.

The trouble with May, however, is that nothing is straight-forward. For a start, Mercury is in retrograde until the 20th and this always puts obstacles in the way of progress, whether quite literally so that your daily journeys take far longer than usual or because trying to reach agreements and receive answers takes forever. Adding to the delays and frustrations of Mercury is Neptune - a planet renowned for sending mixed messages and creating confusion - therefore you will need to be extra-extra careful when making arrangements and getting from A to B generally. Finally, two eclipses - the lunar eclipse in Scorpio on the 16th and the solar eclipse in Gemini on the 31st - increase the tendency for unexpected developments and wake-up calls.

But back to the good news. Virgos are invariably detail-people - get the small stuff right and the big stuff will look after itself - now, however, you need to look at the bigger picture - where your life is headed and what needs to happen in order for you to find the success and happiness for which you have striven so long. Whether going to a far-off location suddenly sets your life into a new perspective or because a discussion with an individual or an organization inspires a change of outlook, these powerful and transformational influences should be used to get you on the right track. The period between the 21st and 31st holds the most potential in this regard, especially if your birthday falls in August. And whenever your birthday, looking farther further afield for answers and opportunities is the way to go.

1st May 2003 - 1st May 2003

Due to unforeseen circumstances, this months forecast has been delayed! Please call back again soon. Penny

1st June 2003 - 30th June 2003

On May 31st a solar eclipse took place on the mid-heaven of your solar chart, and throughout June there will be key alignments focusing on this life-direction axis. In a nutshell, therefore, June’s events could do much to reorient you and help you sort a few priorities. This is a far from smooth and uneventful four weeks, however, and even if you reach the end of the month with all your ducks neatly in a row, you can be sure there will be others who are reeling from the aftershocks of a series of unexpected events.

Looked at positively, these next few weeks could produce the breakthrough you have been seeking. After a period of waiting and preparation you get the green light, whether this manifests as a much hoped for career development, a change of location or a domestic/family move. Such developments are likely to happen suddenly and will leave you very little time to make the necessary arrangements. And the periods of greatest change fall around the 6th, 9th, 12th, 14th and 23rd-25th. On the downside, these same alignments could upend agreements and give you a big fat ‘no’ to a planned project. In the event of a refusal, rejection or U-turn, keep those hopes high, because with Jupiter entering Virgo in late August (a transit that will take a year to complete) there will be compensations for losses and upsets.

On the 17th Mars zips into the zone of love and relating. On the one hand this will do much to awaken a slumbering sex-life but while Mars can inspire passion in the best sense of the word it can also stir up conflict. With this in mind, between now and the end of the year you should be prepared to compromise with partners and wield an olive branch, rather than the sword of unvarnished truth! Enemies are easily made with Mars in the seventh house.

The last week of June is perhaps the most impressive of all. Aside from key global events you may find in tandem that what you thought was unchangeable and unchanging can in fact change beyond recognition.

1st July 2003 - 31st July 2003

Virgo is one of the more self-contained signs of the zodiac but if you want to make the most of your July stars you’ll discover the benefits of togetherness and team spirit. Yes, the sun is doing its annual spin through the eleventh house of your solar chart - Aquarius’s natural habitat - so all things Aquarian, which include friendship, altruism, and the group ethos, become part of your experience. You may find that friends occupy more of your time and that instead of bearing all the responsibilities, whether those relate to the home, family, work or creative/social endeavours, other people lend their talents and support. There is also a sense of something new coming into being, which may translate as a new person in your life, an addition to the family or a new outlet for your energies and abilities. The full moon of the 13th could be hugely influential here, symbolizing as it does the end of a gestation period and the birth of a new entity or enterprise.

On the 13th Mercury slips into the reclusive twelfth house and is joined there by the sun and Venus on the 23rd and 29th respectively. Thus, the second half of July sets you in chill-mode. You may have sectioned off this part of the year for your annual hols or it may just coincide with a period when you need to have more ‘quiet’ time. Either way, you should be aware that from the 23rd at the latest you should cut down your commitments - take the pedal of the metal - in order to replenish your physical, emotional and intellectual reserves. This latter part of July is also a time when your intuition is likely to be sharper and your dreams more vivid - it’s that time of the year when the unconscious is speaking to you loud and clear. And you should take note of those gut feelings and inspired ideas, because they could manifest in reality a little further down the line.

On the 30th Mercury heads into your sign and within twenty-four hours makes a connection to Uranus - the first of several Uranian aspects between then and late August. These last few days of July could produce an unexpected piece of news or a development that forces you to change a plan or your thoughts on a matter. Small distress signals that appear around this time should be knocked on the head immediately, although, by the same token, hints of great things to come should also be taken seriously.

1st August 2003 - 31st August 2003

Each August the sun dips into the secretive and reclusive twelfth house, thereby urging you to get away from the madding crowd and re-charge your physical and emotional batteries. Of course, this is astrological theory so if in practice you are still at the helm of your domestic and career ship, you’re going to have to make an effort to get away from it all - albeit for an evening or a long weekend.

In the distant past far greater emphasis was placed on the inner world of the psyche and spirit - a retreat was necessary to raise spiritual awareness, to commune with the god-within so to speak - but since we all lead such stressed lives now the need to withdraw to allow those things that are buried deep within the layers of our consciousness to surface is not a luxury but a necessity. At the very least the period up until the 22nd sharpens your psychic senses and makes your dream-life very interesting!

Health and fitness levels also need a top up in August - check out those health worries and put your eating and exercise habits under the microscope: steps taken in August to get fitter and healthier will be worth their weight in stress-busting medications!

On the 22nd Venus enters your sign for a month-long stay, and Venus has a magic way of revitalizing your love life. Certainly, the period from the 22nd August - 15th September is a premium one for weddings, engagements and the arrival of new romantic interests and in general Venus increases your capacity for success and happiness. To add to the joy of Venus, on the 27th Jupiter enters your sign for a year-long transit: life improvements can be expected under Jupiter and even if you don’t get that dream job, win the lottery or marry that dream-boat, any upsets, difficulties or negative trends will dissipate as Jupiter makes its way through Virgo.

Quite what you will make of the planetary roller-coaster ride between the 21st and 30th rather depends! In some cases, especially if you have an August birthday, this will prove to be a time of surprise announcements and equally surprising demonstrations of affection - or dis-affection! But while there is a chance of the derailment of a plan there is also the prospect of a brilliant window of opportunity. Take a deep breath, Virgo, August 2003 could be a cracker.

1st September 2003 - 30th September 2003

Your birthday ‘month’ kicked off on 23rd August with a star-spangled alignment, so you may already be entering September in a very different space. And while you may or may not have moved, changed jobs or rocketed into or out of a relationship, your perceptions of someone or something will almost certainly have changed. However, if you are among that select band of Virgos for whom nothing and no one has altered one iota, do not rest on your laurels, September offers some of the most intriguing alignments of 2003.

Keep remembering that you now have Jupiter in your sign because it will reinforce your faith in yourself and those ambitions and desires you hold dear. Between the 5th and the 17th Pluto hogs the limelight and this invariably means buried treasure of some description will surface. Hopefully, what emerges into the light will be a source of pleasure rather than pain but in the event of a less than wonderful revelation, hang onto that promise of Jupiter. You will prevail: good will come out of any hardship. There is a strong theme of the past in September’s stars, whether this means you are revisiting places and people you have not seen for years or whether old issues come up to be revisited. And since the partnership axis is centre stage, you may well find yourself digging up the past with an ex or trying to get to the root of current issues by tracing their history. The full moon of the 10th is quite the most powerful day of the month and, especially if it is your birthday then, signals a year ahead of profound significance.

Venus will grace your sign until the 15th so for many Virgos this is an exceedingly romantic and fortunate month. Certainly, if you meet someone new under these stars such a person looks set play a very important part in your life. An eventful month and one when destiny may appear to have struck.

1st October 2003 - 31st October 2003

Virgo is a discriminating and self-deprecating sign, so much so that failure to seize the moment or flaunt your assets can lead to some missed opportunities. Not so now, surely? With Jupiter emblazoning your sign and Uranus breathing fresh air into your life, you have not had so much encouragement to kick disappointment into the dustbin of history and step into a new and successful future. Hyperbole aside, it is time you rewrote a life-script or two and woke up to the fact that you can change your life: it may take longer than a month but with self-belief and focus, you’ll be amazed how far you have come by this time next year.

During October, the accent is on self-worth and communications. It may be that events give you an ego boost or that your finances improve. That is, provided you’re prepared to deal with Saturn in a positive way. One of your great problems is in leaving the game after falling at the first fence - on the contrary, you need to get back in the saddle and keep your goals in sight. If Saturn does lead to a financial glitch or you feel someone does not appreciate you and your talents, exiting stage left and festering about the situation is not an appropriate move. One failure or shortfall does not mean you will not succeed in the end. Keep on going. And this you may need to remember most keenly around the 6th, 10th, 14th and 25th.

You may find yourself travelling more in October and that one journey in particular taken around the 10th may prove dispiriting. Whatever the reasons for such a journey, it will enlighten you and help you to find some kind of closure. This same period could also set the seal on an agreement or produce a contract or judgment you have been waiting for.

Compared to September, October is a breeze. Count your blessings, eh?

1st November 2003 - 30th November 2003

Being prepared and being in control are essential to Virgo’s well being so if you want to steer a firm course through November’s choppy astrological waters you’ll begin well in advance propping up the walls of weak alliances and, indeed, bolstering anything over which you are nurturing doubts and uncertainties.

I have taken the trouble of writing a separate piece on November’s alignments, which I recommend you read to gain a fuller understanding of the influences at work - you can reach the article by returning to the home page and clicking on: Harmonic Convergences, Eclipses and other awe-inspiring matters.

November is choc full of hard and complex planetary angles and while this does not necessarily mean that you will have a difficult time of it all, you would be wiser cutting down your expectations of great and good times and wonderful outcomes: with two eclipses you can expect interruptions to your schedule! Which takes us back to my opening suggestion that you should strengthen anything that is weak at the seams. Making a pre-emptive move would be in your best interests, whether this means confronting a problem with an employer or taking a member of the family to task. What these eclipses and other alignments will do is expose that which is unworkable or that which has been working against you so for many Virgos (but not all) it will be a case of accepting that a situation can go no further and re-routing yourself. Travel and negotiations of the business and emotional kind are likely to be troublesome in this astrological climate: you may also find that a domestic or property matter hits one of those proverbial ruts in the road.

While there are dates upon which the planetary angles are at their most intense you would be better considering November as a whole a mine-field upon which to tread very carefully.

1st December 2003 - 31st December 2003

November’s stars put the whole zodiac on notice that there was work to be done - principally in the area of diplomacy and steadfastness and while December is far easier on the palette it isn’t perfect. Much of December’s action takes place at the base of your chart, which means the roots of life. On the one hand this may be a period when matters related to the home and family take precedence - not really surprising since it is Christmas - but a combination of a full moon (8th) and a dose of Pluto (12th) could make for some pretty powerful and unscheduled developments. Certainly, if you’ve been waiting on a decision this mid-part of the month shows every sign of being the moment push comes to shove. It is the 7th-12th September birthdays who are principally in the frame here but whenever your birthday the weekend of the 13th carries a red flag.

Mars finally exits the area of relationships on the 16th so the trend for conflict and opposition will gradually fade: Mars now moves on to sort out finances, especially those of a joint nature or in connection with borrowings and lendings. Right through until the end of January you can put finances onto a more manageable footing, however, by contrast, if you are in a dispute over finances, the opposition is likely to get a lot more aggressive.

Retrograde Mercury’s are always a nuisance but never more so than just before a major holiday - and this is what the cosmic joker has produced this year. From the 17th, leave a far longer time for journeys than you would do normally - even allowing for Christmas bottlenecks - and whether because of the weather or other circumstances beyond your control an event could be cancelled.

Be philosophical, Virgo: on the 31st, a whole new era comes in.

1st January 2004 - 31st January 2004

Despite Saturn insisting on opening the door to 2004, you are in pretty good shape, astrologically speaking. Jupiter continues to blaze a glorious trail through your sign and with the sun in the creative and fun oriented sector of your solar chart there could be gatherings and events to look forward to. Perhaps, more importantly, if you have ideas you would like to bring into being and/or you need to be on top of your game, January’s stars will help you succeed, and with a flourish.

Nonetheless, those first seven days of the year are not the most warm and wonderful. Perhaps you are simply suffering from too much of the Christmas fare or maybe you’ve exhausted yourself with family duties but there is a just a chance that the opening to the New Year produces some news that temporarily knocks the wind out of your sails. If you do indeed discover that an event has to be cancelled or that a much hoped for deal cannot go through, don’t give up and throw a tantrum: go back to the drawing board and see if, with a tweak and a twist, the item in question might have another incarnation in the future. By the 9th, a delightful link between the sun and Jupiter could preside over a happy and successful occasion and this aspect is just what you need to restore your spirits.

Venus heads into the zone of love and relating on the 14th - yet another reason why January could be a red-letter month. Venus brings harmony to bear and at the very least she tries to make you see that you are not alone - other people can and will share the load. Especially if you have an August birthday the end of January may produce a romantic surprise, either a partner makes a move that jolts you out of your ‘marital’ rut or you could meet someone who knocks your proverbial socks off. Certainly, the second half of the month gives you the impetus to ring in the changes, particularly regarding friendships and romantic relationships, and in general this period sets you moving in the right direction.

The month ends on a positive and possibly very romantic note.

1st February 2004 - 29th February 2004

Hopefully, you had a nice slow start to 2004, because you’ll need to be on your mettle for February’s fast-moving and eventful developments.

The weekend of the 31st January/1st February promises to be a memorable one, especially for 8th-12th September birthdays: Pluto is at his transformational best, which means other people (probably a partner or close associate) are the source of immense happiness or quite the reverse. This is not the weekend to throw a tantrum, unless you are prepared for the consequences, nor is it the best moment to bring up a delicate issue. On the other hand, this is the weekend to show what a passionate creature you are and just how much you’re prepared to do for someone you love - and vice versa.

Both the following weekends contain powerful alignments so while the temperature might not be quite so hot and heavy, there is still a make or break quality to the astrology. The full moon of the 6th may bring a work or health matter to crunch point while the 14th enables you to sort out the good guys from the bad guys, and to make a decision that will stick. Valentine’s Day could be a little more joyful - Venus and Saturn make a solemn couple - but putting in the hard work of relationship should pay dividends at this time.

The sun enters the seventh house of relationships on the 19th and immediately hooks up to Uranus: especially if you have an August birthday, this is a time when changes that have been in the pipeline for a while take place and also a time when people suddenly change their minds or make an impulse decision - not you, of course! Uranus is a highly liberating planet yet it can make you feel somewhat insecure and uncertain about how another person feels. My advice is to take a step back and wait until the first week of March, when everything will be a lot clearer.

1st March 2004 - 31st March 2004

You get to see what or who stands between you and your heart’s desire now. The area of love and relating becomes the centre for some of the year’s most crucial alignments, especially if your birthday falls around 26th August or between 8th and 13th September.

The full moon of the 6th is the only one this year in your sign, therefore it packs a powerful punch. Technically, all full moons inspire the process of closure and completion, but none so much as one in your sign. For almost all Virgos, this is a time and a month, when you will be clearly ending a chapter of some description, but for a few members of your sign this full moon will bring to a head a situation that has been simmering not so gently for a wee while. The full moon of the 6th flanks the relationship axis of your solar chart, so it can preside over both the making and breaking of bonds: it may signal a forthcoming marriage or a separation/divorce. (Remember any one principle in astrology has a positive and a negative influence.) And even if neither of these scenarios is appropriate for you, this full moon will nonetheless show you something significant about a person and/or a relationship.

Pluto casts a long shadow this month, and with his keyword principles of elimination and transformation, it’s a great time to streamline your life. A giant spring-clean, whether in the real or symbolic sense is appropriate, and should you be in any doubt that there is some baggage that requires shedding, events between the 6th and 13th will soon set you straight.

Venus and Mars are both transiting the long-haul sector of your chart, so romance could spring up in a foreign place or you could find yourself communicating with a loved one at some distance. Travel has a joyful and purposeful element to it - time to consider whether your talents and interests would be better served in a more distant place, perhaps.

1st April 2004 - 30th April 2004

The month gets off to an introspective start: you appear to be dipping into the past more intensely than usual, and you may be examining the deeper layers of life, more especially relationships. The period up until the 20th encourages you to examine what you are being paid by individuals and organizations for work and how other people respond to you emotionally and sexually. It is a time when you should allow other people to demonstrate their appreciation of your talents and their love for you: it may also be a time when partners and associates need you, therefore you will have to be more available to them.

The 19th’s solar eclipse falls in this area of financial and emotional exchange and it will have a variety of effects: for some Virgos it is an announcement of a new financial venture or agreement, for others it is a sign of a new romantic or business association, and for the remainder, this eclipse simply signals a new cycle beginning for financial, working and emotional relationships.

Venus reaches the mid-heaven of your chart on the 3rd, all set for a five month stay - something you will appreciate as the months go by. Not only does the prominence of this planet raise the importance and significance of love, harmony and beauty in your life, but it will help you attract favourable conditions towards you, especially regarding your career and life ambitions.

Mercury’s retrograde motion between the 6th and 30th won’t help the wheels of commerce and communication to speed along, but maybe it is time you took a break of some description. Easter falls during the time Mercury is retrograde, making it the ideal moment for a retreat. The only problem with this notion is that if you want to get away to retreat, you’re likely to come up against all manner of travel problems! Suffer frustration, as my old professor used to say.

The weekend of the 24th brings Pluto back into the frame, so especially if you have a 9th-13th September birthday, you have another of those opportunities to eliminate the dead wood from your life, and start over. Fortunately, there are some less challenging aspects around on that weekend, so it seems that any upheaval leads to a new and improved status quo.

1st May 2004 - 31st May 2004

May begins a three-month period of high-level developments, first and foremost on the world’s stage and second in your personal life. If you have been anticipating moves and changes, then things start motoring from this point, and if your year-ahead planner is looking distinctly blank, just wait and see what happens: you won’t be bored, I promise.

Mercury will be direct from the outset, so the irritating pattern of delays and detours that was with us for much of April will end, however, with a Venus-Pluto opposition (2nd) and a total lunar eclipse (4th) what emerges in the way of events and information could be powerful indeed. Especially if you have a 11th - 14th September birthday, you have reached another of those push-comes-to-shove stages: in some cases and for some Virgos, what happens during the first week of May will amount to a great achievement, but for others, upsets of one sort or another could leave a painful scar. What may be worth remembering at this point is that Pluto strips away the dead wood in order to inspire growth and create great blooms in the future!

While the mid-section of the month is largely uneventful, from the 21st, the pattern of peaks and troughs is back, especially if you have a late August birthday. Whatever comes or goes at this time, the general message in May’s stars is ‘broadening your horizons’, whether you do so in terms of travel or looking further a-field for your success and fulfilment. Astrological food for thought, eh?

1st June 2004 - 30th June 2004

Well, I’m battening down the hatches this June, and I suggest you do the same. With a little more awareness and a philosophical attitude you’ll get over the ruts in the road, but if you were anticipating a hassle-free few weeks, you’re going to become very frustrated when planned events are postponed, or turn out very differently from your expectations. It’s one of those periods when fate seems to play a far bigger role in life than usual.

This having been said, there is a possibility that consciously or unconsciously you have contributed to what happens in June - be careful what you wish for contains a real seed of truth. Perhaps, deep down, you have been wishing to extricate yourself from a situation that is incompatible with your needs and wants, so events conspire to get you out. Certainly, this is a thought worth considering should a relationship or a professional commitment reach a crossroads now. The period up to the 17th is the most delicate - and this is a general trend applying to the zodiac as a whole and world affairs.

The sun, Mercury and Venus are all transiting the tenth house of career and aspirations, so, on the one hand, this is a decisive month for your future, especially if you have a birthday towards the end of August or around 12th September. Ideally, you should get behind your own changes, whether these involve moving to a new location, doing something - anything! - about a toxic situation, or starting of in a whole new career direction. But if events dictate your course, accept the situation with grace and stoicism.

1st July 2004 - 31st July 2004

July comes in on a sombre note, and although this is a far easier month than June, there are the occasional hot spots, most notably on or near the 8th, 16th and 25th.

Saturn dominates the early part of the month - and Saturn spells reality. On the one hand, you can successfully deal with practicalities under this planet but on the other hand, life is not exactly brimming with mirth and joy. You may have a friend or colleague who needs your help and advice, or a friendship or collaboration could experience some difficulties: either way, the solution is to be pragmatic, but not entirely without compassion and sensitivity. Children could also be the source of some hard work during the first half of the month, whether they need tremendous support and understanding or because you are running around in circles attending to their needs, and heavily involved in their activities.

On the 10th, Neptune takes over from where Saturn left off! In other words, what may have seemed simply hard-going now becomes a bit of a mystery. You too may not be at your feisty best, and for some Virgos, attention to health is important now. Weaknesses in the system may become apparent mid-month, and your resistance to infection is lower than normal: also your judgment could be flawed, so if you are concerned and confused about a situation, do not act alone, but seek the support of a trusted advisor. By sharp contrast, mid-month is also a time when a romance could seriously take off, or your heart will be affected in the most beautiful of ways.

Pluto returns to the stage on the weekend of the 24th so, especially if you have an 8th - 13th September birthday, remember that old cliché about acorns and oak trees. Actions will have major consequences at this time, whether you are joyfully entering a new phase of your life or events appear to be going against your hopes, wishes and needs.

1st August 2004 - 31st August 2004

Although the sun will be transiting the shadowy twelfth house of the solar chart, making you crave peace, sanctuary and a decent night’s sleep, assertive Mars will be in your sign bringing out your ambitious and competitive side. The answer to this dilemma is to balance your desire for accomplishment with plenty of rest. And if you do start to feel stressed and paranoid, cut back on your labours and delegate what duties you can.

Two factors stand in the way of a perfect August - retrograde Mercury and treble doses of Uranus. The weekend of the 1st is a case in point. At this time, people may not agree with your every move and external circumstances could force changes in arrangements: partners could be particularly unhelpful and some Virgoans, especially those with birthdays on or near the 27th August, could feel as if they have reached breaking point. A similarly unsettled climate dominates the 17th - 28th of the month, so do your best to consider the long-term ramifications of any actions before you cut and run or rattle off a volley of insults and threats!

Retrograde Mercuries always mean delays and detours. And since August is one of the holiday months of the year, there will be even more aggravation while trying to get in touch with people and receive answers and responses. Of course, sometimes retrograde Mercury helps you gain time so that you can think through a decision and do some research. And although you may not get from A to B in anything like the normal time, you could gain an advantage on another level.

Jupiter has roughly seven more weeks left in your sign, so if you are keen to get an endeavour off the ground, or set in place the foundation stones of personal, family or professional ventures, don’t let a retrograde Mercury put you off. You have some splendid influences to guide your every move between the 11th and 17th. And with a series of tough Plutonic aspects to come in September, making hay while the sun shines is your astrologer’s advice.

1st September 2004 - 30th September 2004

Birthday month comes in with as bang - in the form of Mercury turning direct (2nd), Pluto squaring the sun and Mars (10th and 12th), not to mention a brief flash of Uranus (13th and 14th). If ever you needed a shot in the arm to do something - anything! - about a stale state of affairs, this is it, especially if your birthday falls on or near 27th August or 10th - 14th September.

However, whatever your sign and whenever your birthday, September is a month of contrasts and controversy. Well, it's not the first time you've heard me say something along these lines; in fact I talked about the unusual and the unexpected in March and June, and, indeed, these periods of 2004 may have produced a bolt from the blue, and certainly plenty of diversity! So, here we go again, yet more opportunities to break out of ruts and to be awakened to undreamed of possibilities. I am sure we are all going to be watching world events with a degree of consternation during September: I'd like to think we'll see wonderful breakthroughs but the more likely scenario is increased levels of conflict and upheaval. As far as your personal life is concerned, the period between 7th and 22nd is volatile and, although you may be able to move a proverbial mountain, there's sure to be a lot of rubble to contend with in the process. As usual it's other people who get in the way of your perfect plans, and romantic and working relationships that get the best and worst of Uranus and Pluto. Your best bet is to maintain your integrity, expect to be messed around by individuals and organizations, then what is offered to you, what you achieve and who stands by you will be a wonderful bonus.

And speaking of wonderful! Jupiter may be exiting your sign on the 25th but just before he leaves he makes a brilliant conjunction to the sun. There's an all's-well-that-ends-well feel to this aspect, and events that take place on or near this date have to be beneficial, either immediately or in the near future. And even though Jupiter is moving on he is going to be bringing his principles of increase and abundance to the area of finances. Something to make you smile, should the vicissitudes of early-to-mid September get you down.

1st October 2004 - 31st October 2004

What nicer gift could you have than the arrival of Venus in your sign (3rd). Venus is the bringer of harmony and love, and she also sets you in a favourable light, thus helping you make progress in all sorts of directions. The only problem for you and Venus is that during her transit of your sign she will angle unpredictable Uranus (6th) and passionate Pluto (20th) - or maybe that's not such a daunting prospect. More of this later but first money and self-worth.

Jupiter entered this area of the horoscope at the end of September, so there will be a year-long trend for monetary improvements, however you get something of a rocket-launch to prosperity in October. Perhaps at the heart of financial success is the value you place on yourself: quite simply if you value yourself and your talents, others will too. This is not always an overnight process, but bit by bit, by this time next year you'll be in a whole other financial bracket. The solar eclipse of the 14th could play a part in opening up a new avenue of income, and this mid-period of October is one when you should aim to hold monetary discussions and market your assets.

This theme of self-value will not just help your financial situation but your relationships too. And with Venus lending her beautiful aura to your life, October could turn out to be the most romantic month of 2004. And while romance may come and find you, there's no harm in your giving love a helping hand, whether you ask someone out on a date or bring your partner around to your ideas and needs. Around the 6th and 20th however, the road to true love could prove to have some very large boulders on it, especially if you have a birthday on or near the 27th August or the 12th September. Tough moments for a relationship always test its strength and viability so although these dates may prove troublesome you could come out the other side of them with a renewed sense of commitment and a greater bond with each other. And this trend does not just apply to romantic and intimate relationships, but professional and familial ones too.

Nevertheless, this is not one of the big bad months of 2004 and there should be more than one reason to celebrate life, love and the rest.

1st November 2004 - 30th November 2004

From the 1st of November there are thirty days before communications chief, Mercury, turns retrograde. And the reason I tell you this is that it gives you plenty of time to put arrangements together and to be in contact with people central to survival! Well, maybe that's an exaggeration, but when Mercury is retrograde, messages and people go walk-about and trying to get answers and agreements is frustrating to say the least.

Two main areas of your chart are under focus in November - finance and self-worth on the one hand, and communications on the other. On paper, it looks as though you'll be pleased with monetary developments, and this is certainly the time to get behind financial worries and to make investments and purchases. Likewise, there could be reasons why your personal rating goes up, whether you get a salary increase or you find out just how much someone admires and appreciates you. As far as communications go, throw your natural caution to the winds and strike while the iron is hot, so to speak. Through your drive and initiative you could get an idea off the ground, and you'll impress people with your energy, ambition and enthusiasm. You may also do a fair amount of travelling, most of it enjoyable and productive.

Well, I expect you can hear a but coming on. And you'd be right. This month's buts come in the form of some challenging Saturn and Uranus alignments, and they take place between the 4th and 8th, 19th and 21st, and between the 23rd and 30th. At these times, you'll need patience in bushel-loads: aside from problems beyond your control - the weather or computer technology, for instance - people will be less amenable and cooperative: flaws in projects and the downside to alliances are revealed, and in general this looks to be a time when what you thought was solid and reliable turns out to be very fluid indeed.

1st December 2004 - 31st December 2004

If you look back on the last few Decembers, you may be able to recognize a familiar pattern. It could be that in spite of your sterling efforts to keep your cool at some point a melt-down occurs, whether this revolves around the failure of the family to pull their weight, too many demands on your time and energy or that by some strange coincidence something totally unexpected comes along that changes your plans. Shaking your head? Well, give my theory a chance to work this year because once again a series of aspects to Pluto could cause a rumbling volcano to erupt - and we're not talking Mount Olympus here! Of course, that old cliché - it's better out than in - could also apply, so although a Plutonic eruption may not be all that pleasant at the time, it can do a power of good. And since your sign likes to be prepared, circle in red in your diary the dates when Pluto and Uranus will be at their best and worst - the 5th - 13th, 19th, 23rd and 31st.

To add to the joy that is the run up to Christmas Mercury, the planet of travel and communication, will be in reverse mode, so traffic jams there will be a-plenty and you can expect the usual Mercury-retrograde delays with postage and journeys, and the familiar misunderstandings and mis-connections. On the plus side, there could be a happy reunion, a wonderful reconciliation and more than one event suffused with nostalgia.

The area of home and family is the setting for much of the action in December: the new moon of the 10th points to a fresh chapter opening on the home front, whether this is the signal of some decoration and refurbishment, a new arrival in the family or some other big change in domestic circumstances. And with the full moon in the sign of Cancer during the Christmas weekend, it seems home is indeed where the heart is, and where the most heartfelt moments occur.

New Year's Eve is about as different as it gets - a Mars-Uranus square makes for the unusual and the unexpected, and certainly a departure from New Years of old.

1st January 2005 - 31st January 2005

Mostly, we enjoy being with our guests over the holidays, but some of them overstay their welcome, which astrologically speaking is the case this year with Pluto and Uranus. These two awkward planets were with us for much of December, and, seemingly ignorant of their irritating habits, join us for New Year too!

The New Year is an unstable period for the entire zodiac, whether the return to normality brings a raft of problems with it or whether the weather and events at a distance disrupt timetables and incite tempers. Keep your distance from people who and situations that are glowing red, and if you are unavoidably at the centre of a storm, remember it will pass, and it may serve a very useful purpose. The areas of home, creativity and work are in focus, so while some Virgos will be energetically bringing new endeavours into existence, others will be facing a new era on the domestic or career front.

Saturn is also in residence during early to mid-January, so a matter that was in question before Christmas should be resolved, and those things that you set in motion should stand the test of time. However, lightness and mirth are not in great supply, especially between the 10th and 14th. You may hear some news from or about a friend that is less than wonderful and relationships will require effort and patience.

The big plus to January is that you can clear the decks of ancient history and really start out with a fresh slate. You should have the courage to make radical decisions that will change a pattern of life, and you will discover what has been behind a perplexing situation. And while the early part of the month exposes hidden issues, the last week of the month enables you to do something about them.

1st February 2005 - 28th February 2005

February comes in on a much more positive note, and if January's events have left you with a less than pleasant legacy, you should be able to turn around some of those difficult situations, or at least come to terms with them.

This month's astrological focus is the sixth house of work and well-being. Yes, you can put your health under the microscope and set about implementing new exercise and nutritional regimes - all grist to Virgo's mill - and you can also sort some job issues and get your life running on more efficient tracks. In fact February's stars are a salute to the Virgo ethos. But if you are more concerned with romance than those aforementioned worthy pursuits it rather depends on your individual birth chart as to how romantic this month of Valentines will turn out to be. As far as your solar chart is concerned, romance and relationships make the news after Valentines Day.

Virgos may have the reputation of being the neat-nicks of the zodiac but whether or not your cupboards are tidy and your accounts in perfect order what all Virgos really aspire to is being in control of situations. And to a certain extent, many of February's events hinge on this issue. Although the aspects are largely benign and helpful, due to Neptune's powerful presence every so often you may run into situations where other people appear to be dictating terms or you may feel that circumstances have got in the way of your wishes and ambitions. My advice is to acquiesce to those forces greater than your own will: at this time Neptune is helping you to see that by relinquishing control in a conscious way, you are actually empowering yourself: you are flowing with the current of the universe, as opposed to fighting it. Something to bear in mind should you suffer a disappointment or loss this month.

From the 18th love and relationships become the hot Virgo topic: the 24th's full moon is the only one this year in your sign, and it is closely aligned to unpredictable Uranus. Thus, this latter part of February could see some Virgos (especially those with late August birthdays) making a surprise decision to do with a relationship. Since you are one of the more cautious individuals in the zodiac you may need some encouragement to follow your heart and your instincts at this time. It's the moment to do all for love or to let go of someone who is not worthy of you.

1st March 2005 - 31st March 2005

Have you been complaining that things never change or that nothing ever happens to you? Well, be careful what you wish for. Uranus and Pluto have a few tricks up their sleeves this March, and especially if you belong to those familiar birthday groups - late August and mid-September - it's time to mount one of those pruning exercises. And we're not talking cutting back the roses here, but recognizing where your energies and emotions are being drained and how instead your time would be better spent.

The sun, Venus and Uranus will all be gathered in the seventh house of relationships, so many a romantic question will be answered in March. In some ways this is a time when partners and other people get to call the shots and your job is to listen and go along with their needs and wants - or not as the case may be. Matters come to crunch-point when Pluto is in the ascendant, and in March this means on or near the 1st, 10th, 14th and 18th. Pluto inspires the process of transformation, so while some relationships get bigger and better during a Pluto season, others simply cannot stand the pressure. So, you get to see what other people are made of in March, and whether a close emotional or working relationship is worth all the effort and heartache. Also, if you are foot-loose and fancy-free, Venus could introduce you to someone who lights your fire very nicely indeed.

On the 20th the sun enters the mysterious eighth house, and at the same time Mercury goes into reverse, so this date marks a change of gear and tempo. You may feel more analytical and introspective, or you may find that a partner becomes more difficult to fathom and less easy to live with. Easter may not be the perfect moment to peel back the layers of a relationship in order to see what's lurking there, but from late March there will be a marked trend for search and recover missions! Finances also assume greater significance from late March, and this is one of the premium periods of 2005 for creating new monetary agreements and reconstructing long-standing loans. One more word about retrograde Mercury - take it slow and keep your eye on the ball.

1st April 2005 - 30th April 2005

Do you often find April a tricky month? If you do, it's no surprise. During the first three weeks of the month, the sun passes through the complex eighth house of your solar chart, making you more introspective, and producing situations that are puzzling. Other people seem to be responsible for many of the developments that prove both time-consuming and perplexing, and to a certain extent you are stuck with this state of play until the sun enters your fellow earth sign, Taurus, on the 20th. April is one of those times when other people get to call the shots, and you have to work with their timetables and agendas.

Relationships and finances take top billing in April. A relationship that began some weeks ago could deepen, or you may meet with issues that require root therapy! Indeed, you may find that research pays off in April, and that by digging into the past you find all sorts of answers that you were seeking. This trend also applies to relationships that hit a sticky patch in March, resulting, in some cases, in a split or at least a semi-permanent state of frost. It may be that the other person is ready to reveal what precipitated the March crisis, or you may simply find that the climate is far more conducive to discussion, disclosure and resolution. Negotiation and research also help with finances: this is an ideal period in which to acquire a loan, deal with a debt, and to seek a settlement of some description. Remember, though, you'll have to let other people lead the way for the time being.

April contains two eclipses - the first on the 8th and the second on the 24th. The solar eclipse of the 8th coincides with a series of aspects to Saturn, so although the signs are of a fresh start and a new way forward, you may be less than ecstatic about the way it comes in. There is an aura of karma at work here, whether you are aware that what is happening is the outcome of events that took place a while ago, or whether the actions taken around the time of this eclipse will have major consequences in the future. And although this could apply in your personal life, it is almost certainly relevant to national and international events.

From the 20th the area of far horizons swings into prominence, encouraging you to look farther a-field for fulfilment and helping you see that you have more options than you thought, and certainly some good times ahead to look forward to.

1st May 2005 - 31st May 2005

In May your horizons are broadened as planets head into the sector governing foreign travel, higher education and belief systems. Some of you may be planning holidays or embarking on a mind-improving course, while others could be exploring religious ideas and discovering new frontiers either spiritually, mentally or physically. The presence of the sun here will bring energy and enthusiasm to any new projects undertaken in these arenas of life.

The weekend of 7th-8th has a serious tone as Mercury, planet of travel and communication, and also the ruler of your sign, presides over heart to heart discussions. Saturn injects a sombre note here, so you could be missing someone close or experiencing anxieties over a relationship. The new moon on the 8th also highlights the area of widening horizons so this would be the time to sign on the dotted line and commit to something which will expand your outlook and enhance your life. The only fly in the ointment is that normal life, work and your daily routines, must carry on even though you are somewhat distracted by thoughts of future possibilities. In other words, stop daydreaming and get on with your work! On second thoughts Virgo...daydream away. You work too hard anyway.

From the 1st, Mars will be transiting the relationship zone of your solar chart: this planet both excites and inflames, so in a nutshell, during the next six weeks you will discover just who loves you and how much, and who is your competitor, if not your enemy. You experience your first taste of this trend on or near the 15th when Mars conjoins unpredictable, Uranus, creating a climate in which new relationships blossom overnight and long-established partnerships collapse like a soufflé.

From the 10th until the end of the month, Venus brings success and recognition in your career or to your public image. This is a period in which you might find opportunities presenting themselves for promotion, pay rises etc. You could be feeling very pleased with yourself for a while, but with the aforementioned Mars-Uranus conjunction (15th), your partner in particular and other people in general could be less than thrilled with your success. Indeed, for the rest of the month there may well be tension between your career and partners, career and home-life. By the full moon of the 23rd those tensions are likely to reach zapping point and someone might just be ready tell you exactly what s/he thinks of your job!! I wish I could say things were going to calm down after that, but thanks to the Venus-Pluto opposition of the 29th one of those push-comes-to-shove moments looks set to arise. Indeed, this latter part of May could prove decisive to the future of a romantic or business association, especially if your birthday falls at the beginning or middle of September.

1st June 2005 - 30th June 2005

Each June the sun transits the zone of career, ambitions and life-direction, encouraging you to pursue your personal and professional goals, and to take a more prominent role in life. This June, however, contains some of the year's most powerful configurations, so your ideas of what will be happening could differ radically from their reality. On the one hand, sudden and unexpected events could open up a huge window of opportunity and on the other, what seemed unchanging and unchangeable could do just that - change. And while this trend may or may not be evident in your life - and particularly regarding your career and public role - we can expect to see some extraordinary break-throughs and upsets on the world's stage. In the main it is the period between the 1st and 15th that is volatile and change-evoking while the second half of the month is more conducive to happy times and, more specifically, happy gatherings.

Warrior, Mars, will enter the area of finances and joint interests on the 12th: from this point and for the following six weeks this planet will run the gamut from stimulating the Virgo economy to creating financial aggro, whether in the form of arguments over money with partners or hassles with banks and monetary institutions. On the plus side Mars could also turn a moribund sex life into one of passion and intensity, nevertheless, this six-week period is not one in which to ignore distress signals issued by a partner.

The sun's arrival in Cancer on the 21st marks the beginning of a short season when social life and collaborative ventures take centre stage. Aside from the aforementioned trend for happy gatherings, this latter part of June encourages you to see yourself not so much as a solo act but as part of a team. Likewise, while passion may be an important component of an intimate relationship, the spirit of friendship will help it ride over any bumps. The full moon of the 22nd signals the end of a gestation period, thus allowing you to bring forth new life, whether in the literal sense or in the way of new ventures and associations. Indeed, the end of June should find you in a more serene and fulfilled state of being, and certainly richer and wiser for your experiences of earlier in the month.

1st July 2005 - 31st July 2005

July puts the emphasis on team work, friendship and creativity. You tend to be a hard worker, more often than not slogging away on your own and in the background, so here is an opportunity for other people to come on board and show you how many hands can indeed make light work. June was a tough month for most of the zodiac, and if you fell victim to any unwelcome treatment or some seriously destablizing moments you now have the chance to regroup and re-build a broken dream.

Venus will enter your sign on the 23rd, and you can look to this date for the beginning of a short season of romantic highs and general life improvements. However, until then this planet's journey through the mysterious twelfth house could cause you to worry about the future of a relationship. Perhaps someone's feelings have cooled or maybe you're the one needing your space but either way you should not fuss and fret about matters. Wait and see what time and distance will do to rectify the situation. And much the same advice could apply to another endeavour that seems to be on a decline.

Also on the 23rd, Mercury turns retrograde - perfect for those of you setting off on holiday or attempting travel of any description: you'll surely know from old that whenever this planet heads into reverse thrust, there is an increase in road-works, weather-induced delays and general frustrations with getting from A to B. Take your time, make contingency plans - you'll get there in the end. Actually, these last ten days of the month are a lot more complicated than the earlier part of July, and especially on or near the weekend of the 30th, unexpected developments could change the course of an association or alter a planned event. However, if you're looking for excitement and a change of routine, this same weekend is loaded!

1st August 2005 - 31st August 2005

Get ready for one of the strangest months of the last year, if not the past decade. Not only will the sun be gracing the unfathomable twelfth house but also mystery-maker, Neptune will be on duty, and, until the 16th, Mercury, the planet of communication, will be on retreat - and in the aforementioned twilight zone! Since you are one of the more analytical and organized signs of the zodiac you may find life a whole lot easier if you just let events unravel without questioning the reasons why or trying to put any wrongs to rights.

Ideally, you too should be off duty and on a retreat in August: this is your time to repair the damage of the past year and to isolate yourself from people who and situations that are stressful. One of the pluses of the twelfth house is that you can tune into your unconscious, either by meditation or through dreams, thereby gaining great insight into the real dynamics of situations and discovering ways in which to resolve problems. Health issues come to the fore now, whether you finally take advice on a health matter or you put a new health and fitness regime into being - indeed, the full moon of the 19th could make it clear just how much wear and tear your mind and body have taken this year. Once the sun enters your own sign (23rd) you will want to be at your best for September's lively and somewhat surprising developments.

Until the 17th, Venus will be in your sign encouraging you to seek beauty and harmony in life. This is an excellent time to upgrade your image, whether by a visit to the beauty parlour, some new clothes or by taking the opportunity to market your assets. Love affairs blossom during this time, and if you have chosen this period in which to marry or make an offer someone cannot refuse, you have chosen well. Venus gives you that little edge that you need when you want to appeal to someone special.

Mars has just begun a six-month transit of the zone of far horizons, so you have plenty of time in which to travel to distant places or create a bigger platform for your personal and professional ambitions. And with August's astro-scape looking generally fuzzy and slow-going, while you may enjoy a holiday abroad, getting more ambitious projects off the ground could be left until later.

1st September 2005 - 30th September 2005

The world should seem a brighter place to you this month, Virgo, as the sun's energising rays boost your ego and sense of self. You could be undergoing a change of image, or possibly a change of partner (!), which enhances your life and allows you to enjoy the things you cherish most. The sun and Uranus oppose each other on the first of September, suggesting sudden unexpected changes and, since Venus and Jupiter join up in your money zone at the same time, a windfall could be on its way. On the other hand, the bountiful nature of Venus and Jupiter might bring you riches of a more emotional nature, so you could find yourself irresistibly attracted to somebody. And if your partner suddenly starts behaving oddly, you can put that down to the influence of Uranus too! The new moon of the 3rd adds to this theme of the new and the surprising, and it is certainly the start of a fresh year-long cycle. You should be feeling ready to try new things and should you have been suffering from the light-under-the-bushel syndrome the time has come to assert yourself or make your feelings known.

Well, you can probably hear the "but" coming along, and you'd be right. Between the 1st and the 18th a series of 'hard' angles are formed by our old planetary friends, Uranus, Pluto and Saturn. On the one hand these alignments will make this three-week period highly newsworthy in terms of national and international events, and, on the other, you could find yourself at the centre of some unusual developments, most probably linked to a relationship or inspired by another person. Ideally, you need to get behind your own changes in early to mid-September, whether they be on the career, romantic or family front, but should circumstances dictate your course instead, do your best to go with events rather than resist them.

With Mercury's arrival in Libra on the 20th, life acquires a little more balance and you a lot more perspective. From this point you should be able to build up your reserves, whether of the financial, psychological or spiritual variety, and you may begin to see why some of the events of late August and early September were necessary. Indeed one or more mysteries will be unravelling very satisfactorily.

1st October 2005 - 30th October 2005

Well, that was the month that was, eh? September was a nightmare for some Virgos so if you soared from success to success, count yourself among the privileged few. Fortunately October's influences are comparatively sweet and harmonious - perfect, in fact, should you need to pick yourself up, dust yourself off and get back into that saddle!

Money matters take centre stage for much of the month, and with two eclipses on the financial axis (3rd and 17th) this is an excellent month to make investments, talk money with the appropriate people and to seek income increases. There is a chance of a windfall or some other unexpected financial news. Jupiter has been in this same area for almost a year, so hopefully you have experienced some gains or at least made some moves to improve your long-term financial future. And, if not, the alignments of the 15th - 26th could help you do so. Self-worth, of course, is not just a matter of material wealth but emotional and psychological well-being, so for many Virgos what needs to be put under the astro-microscope this month is your tendency to undervalue yourself. Raise your expectations of how you should be treated in working or romantic relationships, and watch the ensuing developments. It's all about attitude.

Venus will be moving through the area of home and family, encouraging you to bring more beauty and harmony into your life - a spot of painting, decorating and refurbishment for some, a family pow-wow/happy family gathering for others, and in general a trend for domestic improvements.

On the 26th Jupiter enters the zone of communications and travel - and for a year-long stay - so 2006 looks to be the time you get to see a lot more of your world, and the period in which your horizons expand. Certainly, if you've been thinking of going 'back' to school, gaining extra qualifications and skills, Jupiter will help you do so with success. Thoughts to keep at the forefront of your mind should the weekend of the 29th rock that ship of dreams once more.

1st November 2005 - 30th November 2005

Your talent for communication receives a work out in November. The sun makes its annual visit to this area of your horoscope and since Jupiter just arrived there at the end of October - and for a year's stay - you are at the beginning of one of the biggest journeys of your life, and certainly of the past twelve years. Journey's, of course, that can be taken in terms of experience, knowledge and consciousness as well as by travelling to places near and far.

The challenges of November come in the form of a complex alignment involving the sun, Mars, Saturn and Neptune, which dominates the first half of the month and then, during the second half, Mercury will be retrograde producing all those familiar delays and detours. The aforementioned alignment occupies all four Mutable houses, thereby focusing its complex influence on the giving and receiving of information and those aspects of life that involve discussion, debate, movement and receptivity. During the first fourteen days, and especially between the 2nd and 7th, you will either have concrete evidence that a plan or wish is to be fulfilled, or by some inexplicable circumstances an endeavour or association that you had absolute faith in will turn out to be full of holes. Keep focused on the facts, ignore rumours and be sure that the information you give out is correct, has been understood and that where you think you're going is indeed where you're going!

The period around the 18th also reveals some Saturn-Pluto potholes, and if you have a social event planned for the weekend, don't expect the event to conform to your expectations. There could be some serious business to discuss at this time, although with lovely Venus ensconced in the creative, romantic and pleasure-oriented zone, you won't have to go far to find love, support, fun and the occasional magic moment.

Now, where would a month be without a mention of Uranus! This lively planet comes back into the fold on the 21st and turns on the big guns between the 27th November and 2nd December. On some occasions, Uranus moves the goalposts in a relationship but at other times he brings someone to your side who lights your fire in no uncertain terms. Nevertheless, during the last week of the month, don't dish out ultimatums in a relationship unless you're prepared to vote with your feet.

1st December 2005 - 31st December 2005

With the sun firmly entrenched in the area of hearth and home, you're either going to love your domestic incarceration or loathe the stresses and strains of family life - maybe a mix of the two. Pluto will be there to expunge a few of the traditions, but then you've needed a new take on an old situation... (More about this shortly.) On the 4th, Mercury, your ruler, resumes forward motion, so you should be raring to go and at last feel you can get from A to B without meeting obstacles everywhere you go. If you have been finding travel and communication fraught with difficulties over the past few weeks you can breathe a sigh of relief and press on undaunted. Mercury's back on track and all is well with the world! A word of warning for the 5th, however, when you could be so full of enthusiasm for making progress in life that you pick up a speeding ticket along the way. Mars and Jupiter will both be egging you on here, but remember the proverb, "More haste, less speed."

And so to Pluto. On the 16th the sun and Pluto meet in your home zone, and in the wake of a full moon, thus peace and harmony could be in short supply. Ideally something needs to go under this transformational planet in order to create space for the new to implant, and while you could take the opportunity to throw out your wardrobe or those boxes cluttering the attic, you may find instead that events beyond your control perform the same function. It's one of those times when push comes to shove and people issue ultimatums. Those of you born in mid-September will have been feeling the effects of Pluto over the past couple of years and, more specifically in March, June and September of this year, so there have been other similar periods of endings and beginnings. Basically, you are undergoing a transformation at the roots of your being and this month the process continues with the focus on home and family. Of course we all know that change is one of the few certainties in life and it may be that you are experiencing a sense of renewal and regeneration at a deep emotional level, because Pluto brings new growth after tearing down the old, unworkable structures in our lives.

After the 22nd the spirit of Christmas asserts itself in force: with the sun in the zone of love, pleasure and creativity there could be parties, outings and great good fun - even a birth to celebrate. By New Year's Eve, however, you're thinking more seriously about the future. Pluto makes a return visit, encouraging you to really and truly let go of the past and walk into a brand new, albeit uncertain, future.

1st January 2006 - 31st January 2006

The opening to 2006 finds the sun, Venus and Mercury in the zone of creativity, self-expression and pleasure - do you need more of an excuse to take a holiday, or at least turn as much of your attention as possible to the enjoyable things of life? The start to a year is often a mix of resignation and high hopes, but on this occasion you should wipe. away any shadow of self-doubt and negativity in the certain knowledge that the patterns of 2005 will not be repeated in the coming twelve months.

In many ways, the year gets off to a slow start. You have time to de-clutter the home and the work-place, and you can create sound blue-prints for the coming year. Throughout the month the background of the Fixed Grand Cross will be present, so there could be some peripheral concerns about work and your physical well-being, but many of these worries can be overcome by confronting a difficulty and dealing with it in as joyful and purposeful a fashion as you can. The full moon of the 14th cuts across the creative axis of your solar chart, encouraging you to bring new things into being and not to be afraid to let your unique voice be heard. Some Virgos could have news of a baby's birth while others will find invitations to important social events landing on the doormat.

Romance is also on the map for many Virgos. In some cases a relationship may already have been rekindled over the Christmas period so in January you will be continuing to discover whether it still has what it takes to be a long-term liaison. In other cases, a trip to a place or to people you knew many years ago provides the setting for a romantic meeting with someone new. The problem with relationships and a retrograde Venus is that when this planet turns direct (3rd February) what once seemed so magical can turn out to be a damp squib. On the other hand, a relationship that went into reverse thrust in late December/early January can get back on track. The week of the 23rd could reveal many realities - not just of the relationship variety - don't hang about on Cloud Nine without a parachute!

1st February 2006 - 28th February 2006

February is a hard working month. The sun makes its annual journey through the zone of work, bringing out your best qualities of organization, research and pragmatic decision-making. The only problem with this year's annual visit is that Neptune is an ever-present hazard. From late January through to mid-February, this planet of the divine and the devious has to be reckoned with so even with your superb powers of analysis and your natural caution, dis-information - a euphemism for rumours, rumours and damned lies - could easily lead to mistakes and detours on your part. If circumstances beyond your control cause problems in the work place or mysterious developments get in the way of a promotion, put it down to Neptune and do your best to find a purpose in any unwanted and unexpected derailment of your dreams.

On the 9th Mercury arrives in the seventh house of relationships setting the stage for meetings and discussions with partners and organizations. Technically, this is the beginning of a six-week period when other people come to you with their ideas and offers rather than your initiating the moves, so do your best to be a good and patient listener. Intriguingly - or has the Cosmic joker been at work again? - Valentine's Day is dominated by a Mercury-Uranus conjunction, so anything and everything may happen to your plans and timetable then, especially if you have an early September birthday. Surprise proposals, impulse decisions and the breaking of a fragile bond could be on the agenda. And if you've chosen the 14th for a wedding day - just wait and see what Uranus brings to the table in the way of unexpected guests and gifts.

Mars heads into the most ambitious zone of your horoscope on the 17th, urging you to get behind career matters and to generally to strut your stuff. Employers and people of power and influence will be less patient and tolerant, and I wouldn't recommend fighting fire with fire until we get into April. If you're already considering the merits of a new job, by March February's thoughts could become a reality. Likewise, if you sense a situation is hanging on by a thread, events of late February to end-March could sever that fragile connection.

Indeed, the last few days of February could prove pivotal for all sorts of reasons. A new moon in the relationship zone (28th) is backed by a Mercury-Pluto square - a perfect recipe for out with the old and in with the new. Now where have I heard that before...

1st March 2006 - 31st March 2006

Expect the unexpected where your relationships are concerned this month. The sun and Uranus join up to bring change which will give those partnerships in need of a boost a lightning bolt of energy and those past their sell by date could well be consigned to the bin. Uranus has been moving through your house of relationships over the past year or two and feelings are being awakened here which some of you may find hard to accept. Especially those of you born late August and early September are feeling the effects of Uranus, which can be unsettling. You sense change is in the air even if you don't consciously want it. Under these unusual stars, an old love could spring back into life, which in turn will ruffle a few feathers. Mercury, your chart ruler, is retrograde until the 25th, which means that communications between you and other people, especially partners, could be delicate and confused, so it may be best to delay important decisions until after this date when the fog will have cleared and you can make yourself heard more easily. Travelling too could be problematic, especially around the 4th, so prepare for delays at airports, roadworks on the motorways and if you experience an aggressive driver on the road, count to ten and think serene thoughts.

March is a pivotal month for the whole zodiac: it begins with a volatile sun-Uranus conjunction and ends on a total solar eclipse in Aries, and in between there are tough connections to Saturn and Pluto, not to mention a retrograde Mercury. Clearly, the next six to eight weeks are going to produce some powerful events on the world's stage, and we can expect to see some leadership changes, a reshuffle or two in the corridors of power, even a natural or not-so-natural disaster. And where travel and communications are concerned, we can forget about getting anywhere in a hurry and a straight line. Of course, tough alignments produce wonderful events too so don't rule out announcements of marriage in royal/celebrity circles and a major scientific or medical break-through.

The lunar eclipse of the 14th falls on the relationship axis of your solar chart, thus issues will surface that need to be addressed in your partnerships. Since Pluto is also in the mix, emotions will be running at full tilt and it will be easy to sabotage a relationship, if only through words. Perhaps you have simply had enough of the way someone close to you is behaving and you cannot stand for it any longer. Especially if you have a mid-September birthday, life and love could change dramatically this year, so while you should be careful not to make a threat or promise that you do not intend to carry out, sometimes what we regret in terms of our actions in the immediate aftermath of a crisis, turns out to be the very best thing. And I guess, with Mercury in retrograde, there is a suggestion that a mistake can be rectified.

The solar eclipse of the 29th indicates a new beginning where joint finances are concerned. Some of you will be arranging mortgages and joint bank accounts around this time, while others might be looking at investments for the future. If your life has been lacking intimacy and closeness in recent months, you could experience a sense of rejuvenation as fresh energy surges into your life. Regrowth is the theme of this eclipse, planting seeds for the future and looking forward to the new life which will emerge in the weeks and months to come.

1st April 2006 - 30th April 2006

Finances are in the spotlight this month as the sun beams its light upon the investments you have made with others. In many ways this is one of the best periods of 2006 to talk with lending institutions and to construct new financial agreements; it is also a premium time to set to rights any monetary wrongs of the past twelve months. There are of course, other kinds of investments - sexual and emotional - and these could also come under scrutiny over the next few weeks. (More about relationships in a moment.)

The week of the 3rd puts Mars and Pluto in opposition, thus upping the potential for conflict and certainly confrontation. We will surely see some impressive results of escalating tension in the Middle East prior to Easter, and the Bush administration will have to be very careful how it plays events in the early to mid part of the month. While in the Christian World Easter is a time of celebration, for many other creeds it is simply business as usual. As far as your sign is concerned, power struggles that erupt around the 8th could prove unsettling, but life will be a whole lot easier if you distance yourself from the aggravation rather than trying to sort it out in a hail of bullets! However, if you reach any landmark decisions regarding your home, career or a relationship at this time be assured that they will change your life for the better.

Venus moves into your relationship zone on the 6th and will continue to sweeten this area of your horoscope until 2nd May. You may have selected this four-week period for a wedding or some other romantic event, but, if not, now is the time to put as much effort as possible into finding Mr or Ms Right and regenerating your love life. The all-important angles to Uranus (18th) and Pluto (30th) are the pivots upon which the key romantic developments of April take place. Both these planets represent wake-up calls, and both implement new orders so if you're feeling unsure about a relationship, on and around these dates treat a partner with kid gloves and if you're looking for love, it may well come and find you!

By the 20th, the sun will have moved into your travel and communication zone, giving a much less intense feel to the remainder of the month. If you have managed to get away from your everyday life, by taking a holiday or break from work, you will feel a sense of space and freedom. Just how much Saturn helps or hinders this liberation process rather depends, but since this planet is all about realities and responsibilities, this final week of April helps you solidify plans or realize what requires more structure and time to come together.

1st May 2006 - 31st May 2006

You find yourself exploring new horizons this month, whether this means you take off for distant shores or expand your knowledge through more bookish pursuits. As Mercury, in addition to the sun, is urging you to broaden your experience of life, this would be an excellent time to take up a course of study, maybe even learn a new language. You might struggle at first to fit in extra work with your already packed schedule, but you were never one to shy away from a hefty workload, Virgo. If you have the urge to sign up for a course do so since it could benefit you in ways you never thought possible. Also, should you be taking an exam in May, the planets are in perfect alignment to ensure focus and to bring out your best.

One of the most fascinating features of May is the presence of a Grand Cross - an alignment of four or more planets, made up of squares and oppositions - which is in play between the 4th and 15th. Without becoming too technical, when planets are in this tense alignment, they bring all manner of issues to crunch point, and there is a feeling of having reached a giant cross-roads. While this configuration will certainly present itself in the form of moral and political crises for world leaders, in our own lives we too must make some wise decisions in a confusing and pressurized climate. Since this Grand Cross affects the four angles of communication in your solar chart, a journey may inspire a major life change or what you hear and see could affect long-standing alliances and commitments. Health should not be taken for granted at this time, since your usual defence systems may be under pressure, and in general you will need to watch out for situations that look one way but are, in fact, quite, quite different.

After the 19th your career resumes poll position in your life. You may even be dreaming of finding the job that will help you achieve the lifestyle to which you aspire. And since Venus will move into that same zone of far horizons on the 29th such a dream may well become a reality in the coming weeks and months. Indeed, as the month ends you may realize that you have come a long way only to discover, in the words of Sartre, "Il ya a un autre chemin..." There is another way.

I am sorry this forecast was delayed. The original sending was lost and both my webmaster and I have been in transit over the last 3 days. We have now added better facilities for updating forecasts.

1st June 2006 - 30th June 2006

This month puts Uranus and Pluto centre stage and, since many countries have major events planned for June, these alignments underscore the importance and celebratory nature of national occasions, yet they will surely produce some shocks and tremors too. On the 3rd, Mars enters the regal sign of Leo for a six week transit and on the 18th this assertive planet hooks up to heavy-metal Saturn - and at the same time as the sun- Pluto opposition. Mid-month, therefore, will be a time to watch for international dramas and the push-comes-to-shove syndrome. This conjunction falls on President Bush's Mercury- Pluto Ascendant combo and Tony Blair's South Node, so neither of them is in great shape in June and there could be some serous threats to their tenure as leaders (as if they haven't enough already.)

As far as you are concerned, Virgo, the brunt of this heavy outer planetary activity is likely to be borne by your career zone. For some months now rumblings of discontent could have eaten away at the heart of a relationship: it may be that your nearest and dearest is not happy with your career choice or feels that your working hours are too long, or, perhaps a conflict of priorities has arisen. A sudden unexpected change, courtesy of Uranus and Pluto, will encourage you to address certain issues that simply will not go away by themselves. By contrast, a partner's working situation could change - a redundancy, perhaps, or a staff reshuffle, and these unsettling conditions will create upsets and tensions in close personal relationships. Virgos born around the 16th of September are likely to be most affected by these challenging aspects, but you will by now have discovered that your inner resources have strengthened with each new hurdle life has thrown in your path.

For those of you whose careers are not affected by these alignments a parent or authority figure may be pressing your buttons and causing you a certain amount of stress. Power struggles and ego clashes could leave you feeling shaken to the core but it's important that you express your anger rather than internalising it which could make you feel ill at ease.

The month ends on an optimistic note, so, whatever challenges have been thrust upon you in the preceding weeks, the sun and Jupiter promise fun, joy and fresh experiences. It's time to stop worrying and begin the serious business of enjoying life.

1st July 2006 - 31st July 2006

You may already have plenty of social events penned in your diary for July, since this is the most outgoing and convivial period of the year, but, if not, do your level best to rectify the situation. July favours collaborations and creative projects, and you should have more than one occasion upon which to celebrate the joy of friendship. Indeed, colleagues and friends are likely to be the reason July is so memorable. Until the 19th, Venus, the planet of love and harmony, passes through the career zone of your solar chart, and although this should produce great results regarding a job or a personal endeavour, aspects to Uranus (6th) and Pluto (14th) could test to the limits a professional association - not the days upon which to throw your weight around or to underestimate the power of certain people to rock your boat. These same dates could also prove to be pivotal for a romance or intimate relationship.

After the planetary heat of June, July's influences have much to recommend them. Even with Mercury in retrograde (4th - 29th), there are many benign alignments, and in tandem, national and international affairs may be more fruitful than fraught. However, the Grand Cross in fixed signs will be loosely in place, so it may seem as if more than one situation is refusing to budge, and there will be very little give when it comes to matters of law and law enforcement. Many of the world's leading figures, including Tony Blair, George Bush, Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip have relentless Saturn and nebulous Neptune on key planets and points in their natal charts, and it remains a mystery to me as to why the gathering gloom has not yet resulted in a truly serious crisis, although leaked information from the enquiry into the death of Princess Diana must be sending seismic waves through Britain's corridors of power. With this in mind, events on or near the Mars-Neptune opposition of the 5th and the full moon in Capricorn of the 11th could precipitate a minor tsunami... Pluto also puts in a double appearance on the 14th so the first half of July looks to be the most scandal ridden and generally explosive.

Feisty Mars will be transiting the secretive twelfth house for much of the month so you may need to pay more attention to discreet signals other people are sending you, whether this means someone is nurturing beautiful feelings towards you or because an individual or an organization is having second thoughts about a situation. On the 22nd, Mars storms into your sign so by the end of the month you should be fully aware of the status quo and able to direct the course of events from then on. The only trouble with Mars energy is that it can seem somewhat forceful and argumentative to others, so try to temper your enthusiasm with liberal dollops of charm.

The last week of the month is quite the best - perfect for those social events, and ideal for romantic interludes and loving reunions.

1st August 2006 - 31st August 2006

Each year, from 22nd July until 23 August, the sun tucks itself away in the occluded twelfth house, which may explain why you suddenly start to feel lethargic and less focussed. Ideally this period should be put to good use by upping your health and fitness levels and paying more attention to the inner world of dreams and feelings. And even if you have a packed timetable of work and social/domestic commitments, you should try to put in as many early nights as possible, and delegate some of the less important duties and responsibilities. This August is a far from easy month for the whole zodiac - hardly a week goes by without a challenging aspect from one of the heavy mob (that's Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto) - and since many people are on holiday, making connections and remaining in charge of your own destiny could be even harder to achieve.

One of the main reasons for this irritating trend is the applying opposition between Saturn in Leo and Neptune in Aquarius. I have written a separate piece on the Saturn-Neptune opposition, which becomes exact on the 31st of this month, so you'll have plenty of food for thought should you find yourself wondering why you're making little progress and running into troughs of low pressure at inappropriate intervals. August is always a strange (and often uneventful) month in politics, but given mid-July sparked another major conflict in the Middle East, under these relentless influences we can expect an intensifying of hostilities - not just in Lebanon - and very little progress on the diplomatic front. I'd like to believe that the Jupiter-Uranus trine, which is both ebullient and barrier-breaking, will provide a balance for this depressing opposition but we will have to wait until the very end of the month before we see what rabbits these two can pull out of the hat. The usual suspects - that's President Bush, and Prime Minister Blair - face a dark and difficult summer break, although with the world in such crisis, their individual careers and reputations pale into insignificance.

Mars' transit of your sign throughout August is both a blessing and a curse: on the plus side, it will give you the energy and drive with which to accomplish your tasks and reach your objectives, yet it will also generate static and make sudden emotional squalls par for the course. This transit set against all that twelfth house activity could create a stop-go feel to the month, although, if pushed, I would suggest, most of the time, you took the pedal off the metal and avoided forcing anything or anyone. Relationships could be particularly sensitive during August, and if a love affair takes a downturn or you sense someone has cooled towards you, try not to panic: relationships are organic things, and by the time Venus arrives in Virgo (6 September) you'll be in a stronger position to ask questions and call the shots.

Two aspects that are worth a mention in their own right are the Mars-Uranus opposition of the 13th and the Mars-Pluto square of the 29th: Since Mars is in Virgo, you have the power to make big changes at these times yet out of the blue events can perform the same function: and especially if you have an early or mid-September birthday there is a sense of no-going-back.

1st September 2006 - 30th September 2006

September, like August, is a big month in astrological terms. The Saturn-Neptune opposition is still dominating the heavens (and, if you need to gen up on this transit, please go to the article dedicated to it on the website...CLICK HERE) so we are still trying to get to grips with reality and watching some very weird situations unfold out there on the world's stage. There are two eclipses to take into account - neither of them total eclipses but nonetheless they can still pack a powerful punch. The first - a lunar eclipse in Pisces - appears on the 7th, and harks back to March in terms of eclipses and events, and the second, on the 22nd, is a solar eclipse in Virgo. Eclipses set in motion events that shape the destiny of nations, and also our own lives, should they fall on key planets and points in our charts, so anything that emerges on or around the time of an eclipse must be taken seriously. The period of the 11th - 17th looks to be the most impressive: transformational Pluto is centre stage, so we can expect some dramatic entrances and exits on the political scene and a rattling of sabres from the usual suspects. The sun's entry into Libra on the 23rd, followed by Venus on the 30th, heralds the beginning of a calmer period, and certainly one in which dialogue and debate pave the way for peace and concord.

September is the most significant month of 2006 for you. The sun, Venus, Mercury, Uranus and Pluto are all affecting the angles of your solar chart, along with the two eclipses, which means that a change in one area of life has a domino effect on the rest. A surprise announcement at the beginning of the month, courtesy of Uranus, could start this trend, particularly if you have a birthday during the first seven days. And since Uranus is currently occupying the seventh house of relating, a close relationship could be the focus for the unexpected, and other people will act as the agents of change. While Uranus tends to have a generally unsettling effect, Pluto transforms whatever it touches, so one thing you can be assured of is that you will be making some important decisions throughout the coming weeks which are aimed at changing your life for the better.

As I mentioned earlier, eclipses have a profound effect on our lives, especially when they are in your sun sign and/or connecting with planets and angles in your own chart. Both eclipses fall on the axis of relationship - hence my comments that other people will be the agents of change now, and a relationship the focus for some pivotal, and certainly interesting, events. When you meet someone under an eclipse, or an opportunity appears, you can be sure that you are about to step into a life-changing scenario. What you may need to watch, however, is that actions carry huge consequences, so a minor disagreement could turn into a full blown 'war', and a casual gesture could be taken very seriously, leading to complications to say the least. The weekend of the 16th could prove memorable for many Virgos, and should you be nurturing doubts about a commitment, this may be the moment to pull out, or put a situation on hold for an indefinite period. Indeed, all the weekends in September have a make-or-break feel to them.

Whatever your birthday, September marks the beginning of a new cycle, and in keeping with new beginnings, ancient history must be dealt with and one or more situations put to bed. At the very least the coming weeks help you see aspects of your life in greater clarity, whether you take affirmative action now or make plans to do so in the future.

1st October 2006 - 31st October 2006

With the challenges of August and September behind us we can all look forward to better times in October. Until the 23rd there are almost no hard angles to the senior planets (Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto) to hamper us, which means global hostilities should lessen and the climate will be suitable for discussion, debate, new peace agreements and generally more co-operation between nations and leaders. Of course, having put my pen where my astrological judgement is it wouldn't surprise me to find that a simmering hot spot boils over and that there are further terrorist outrages. However it is unlikely...by the 22nd this little patch of perfection will be over : the sun, Mars and Venus head into Scorpio, Mercury is squared by Saturn(23rd) and Mercury turns retrograde (28th) all of which is likely to create a more intense atmosphere, and we may see some reversals of decisions, and certainly far less progress made in war-torn areas.

On a personal level you will learn more about what you truly value as the sun, Venus and Mars all gather in your zone of resources. On the one hand you could be heavily into financial planning or dealing with the sale/purchase of a property; on the other, you may have cause to examine just how much you are worth to an individual or an organization, in terms of your being or your talents. Since the alignments are harmonious you're more likely to receive positive feedback for your efforts and demonstrations of approval, however, if the reverse occurs, please look at the way you see yourself. Always criticising your efforts and feeling less than perfect? It's time you focused on your assets and ignored those minor flaws. Also, if the workplace has provided an escape route in recent months whatever you do in your daily routine now will be particularly rewarding, both financially and emotionally. You will be energised and uplifted by your everyday labours and feel as though you are providing a valuable service to your customers...whether they be demanding toddlers or hard-bitten business tycoons. For perfectionist Virgo the first two weeks of October are a glimpse of heaven...if only life could always be like this.

Mid-month you may be spending money on home improvements since Pluto in your home zone sextiles both the sun and Venus. Pluto brings about drastic change so we are talking about a complete new look here, not just a half-hearted shifting of furniture.

After the 22nd travel and communication take centre stage. Secrets may be revealed around this date and any discussions you have will be of a serious nature. Since your ruler, Mercury, goes retrograde on the 28th, it is possible that a past love, or maybe someone now living at a distance, could get in touch with you and, judging by the planetary aspects at the end of the month, you could have very mixed feelings about the reconnection...

1st November 2006 - 30th November 2006

Travel and communication are highlighted this month as the sun, Mercury, Venus and Mars all pass through this zone of your solar chart:. You can expect a busy time ahead: you may receive more letters, e mails, phone calls and visitors than usual and you could be making more trips. Mercury, the ruling planet of travel and communication is, of course, also your ruling planet, and until the 18th remains in retrograde motion. This means that mis-communications can occur or journeys may be subject to delays or detours. It may be that you need to sort out a misunderstanding which has occurred in a relationship. You could make some surprising breakthroughs during the first week of November: if, for instance, someone hurt you badly in the past bridges can be built as you are able to explain yourself clearly with great diplomacy. What you must try to avoid, however, is appearing to patch things up whilst still harbouring secret grudges as this will only harm you in the long run.

The big event this month is the entry of Jupiter into the sign it rules, Sagittarius. Clearly this is extremely good news for all Sagittarians, since the planet of increase will be transiting their sign until December 2007, but, hopefully, this planet's expansive nature will help us all take some impressive leaps of faith and encourage us to follow the spirit of religion as opposed to the dogma. Jupiter enters Sagittarius on the 24th, less than forty-eight hours after a sun-Jupiter conjunction in the final degree of Scorpio, and while this may prove to be a terrifically happy and successful period for those with birthdays on or near this date, new beginnings made at that time (whatever your sun sign) are auspicious indeed. We should look at global developments here too, whether we see magnanimous gestures on the part of leaders and governments or an aggressive show of power. Jupiter does not have the astrological stage to itself, however, and as if to remind us that the best things in life have to be earned and that all actions have consequences, Saturn makes regular appearances in November, and since Neptune is still in opposition to Saturn, especially around the 8th, 17th and 29th we will need to read between the lines when it comes to statements of national and international importance: the distance between reality and fabrication may never have been greater. While such influences would not be out of place with an announcement of a withdrawal of troops from Iraq, and a subsequent aura of failure and defeat hovering over the Bush administration - their chances of keeping the Senate Republican are slim - we may be looking also at a severe loss of face inspired by leaks and betrayal for Tony Blair upon whose Mid-heaven Neptune will be sitting.

In your case Virgo, Jupiter will be transiting the zone connected with home and family bringing a sense of freedom and adventure into your life. Jupiter inspires expansion and opportunity wherever it travels and it may be that some of you will be branching out by moving to a new home, possibly investing in a property abroad, but generally finding home a source of happiness.

1st December 2006 - 31st December 2006

There is so much planetary activity in the area of home and family that if you're not celebrating a birth, a marriage or memorable domestic development, you'll certainly have your time cut out attending to family needs and/or dealing with property matters. Jupiter has just begin its transit of this sector of the horoscope so you may have your first piece of evidence as to what this planet can do in the way of increase and abundance. Of course there are some other planets - dare we mention Uranus and Pluto - that will also add to life's rich harvest of experience in December. Of which more shortly.

Each year at this time the sun squares Uranus and conjoins Pluto and often there are other alignments which add to this powerful mix, resulting in upheavals of a personal and global nature. Take the tsunami of 2004, for instance, which began as the moon clipped the degree of the sun-Pluto conjunction just prior to becoming full. Between the 1st and 22nd of December there will be no less than five planets in the sign of Sagittarius, so there is a concentration of ‘energy' in one area of the cosmos: in a natal chart this often manifests as an individual who is a specialist, one who is very focused, and in terms of events there can be a last straw effect to be observed. Put another way, people reach the end of their tethers and take extreme measures to prove their point. The period from the 15th to the 23rd is potentially the most explosive and we may see a lot of sabres being rattled by world leaders and another terror alert that interferes with our travel and our peace of mind. The year closes with war lord, Mars, and Master of Mystery, Neptune, in harmony, which is perfect for a champagne entry into 2007 but also a compassionate end to a year that has been full of strife and conflict.

You may recall one or two events that have shaken your world earlier this year, particularly in June and September when Uranus made challenging aspects to the personal planets, and since Uranus is in pride of place on the 3rd, 15th, 22nd and 25th of December there could be more surprises to come. Since your home and relationship zones are now affected, your partner may drop a bombshell of some sort and a change of residence may be in the picture. A career move is possible too, so don't rule out the possibility that Uranus can bring wonderful unexpected changes into your life involving a fresh start for the whole family. Whatever tricks Uranus has up its sleeve for you this month, you will feel a powerful love for your family as the sun, Venus and your ruler, Mercury all meet Pluto at the roots of your chart. No doubt this will give you the strength to move mountains if you so desire and, if you are called upon to make changes in your life you will be able to draw on inner reserves you never knew you had.

1st January 2007 - 31st January 2007

Compared to December January's stars are a dream. Venus spends most of the month in Aquarius generally sweetening life for members of this sign and helping those of the opposite sign (Leo) find and celebrate love. The full moon of the 3rd is in Cancer and, like all full moons helps us close a chapter and begin a new one - something we tend to do anyway at the start of a new year., although of course, for Cancerians, this process is profoundly more marked. The Mars - Pluto conjunction of the 13th is the last in a series of aspects between the personal planets and Pluto, so events mid-month may well have a connection between those of the 8th-25th December. (Here in Great Britain the enquiry into the death of Princess Diana confirmed that it was an accident - not a white-wash surely? And on the same day (14th December) Prime Minister Tony Blair was questioned by police in the cash for honours enquiry - not an attempt to bury bad news, surely? - and in keeping with Pluto's principles of dark deeds, a nationwide police hunt began for serial killer of five young prostitutes, which resulted in an arrest just before Christmas) On January 16th Mars enters Capricorn for a six-week transit - OK Cappies, it's time to get moving and motoring! And on the 20th the sun arrives in Aquarius. These last ten days of January present a complex and certainly variety-packed picture. In a nutshell the theme is chickens coming home to roost (courtesy Saturn Lord of Karma) so if we've spent too much money over Christmas we'll be paying the price at this time, and, in general, both on the world's stage and in our own lives we'll be looking at the cost of actions taken some time ago.

Dutiful you may be Virgo, but the stars are telling you to have fun and assume centre stage for a change. You may be taking a well-earned holiday or enjoying a high-profile spot at a special event. This is also the perfect time to create something new - a business endeavour, romance or even a baby! Your only problem could appear on or around the 13th when Mars and Pluto conjoin creating a somewhat incendiary climate and bringing old issues back into the present. Secrets may be revealed or you may simply realise that a situation can no longer be endured. As the month ends you will, no doubt, feel yourself back in harness, but, let's face it Virgo, you're not entirely given to frivolity and fun. You may even feel more at home now - getting back into your old routines, but re-vitalised by the events of the past few weeks.

1st February 2007 - 28th February 2007

With a full moon opening to February the theme of endings and beginnings is clearly stamped on our astrology. The moon is in Leo so members of this sign and those of Aquarius are in the front row when it comes to bringing to a close anything that has outlived its usefulness. Relationships for these two signs in particular appear to be at a crossroads, and with Valentine's Day coming in between a sun-Saturn opposition (10th) and a Venus Pluto square (20th), the scent of final straws is in the air! This is far from a light and frothy month, primarily due to the applying Saturn-Neptune opposition. (And if you want to know more about this important transit, please click on the article relating to it on the home page.) This opposition is exact on the 28th, and from the middle of February onwards we can expect to see events out on the world's stage reflecting its theme of sacrifice and redemption on the one hand, and the erosion of established structures on the other. Among those for whom the Saturn-Neptune bell tolls are: Fidel Castro (sun: 20 Aquarius), Tony Blair (Pluto: 20 Leo), George W. (Venus: 21 Leo) and Queen Elizabeth (Mars: 20 Aquarius and Neptune: 22 Leo).

There may be a gulf between the lifestyle you aspire to and the one which you actually have, and this could be brought into sharp focus (as sharp as any aspect involving Neptune can be!) by transits on or near the 8th and the Saturn-Neptune opposition of the 28th. This may not be the time to make radical moves in order to get on track with your dreams and aspirations but you should at least acknowledge the likely possibility that changes will be necessary in the future. Perhaps you have been burying your head in the sand for some time in the hope that a problem will disappear so at least facing the facts will be a start. Until the 21st, you have the blessing of Venus in your relationship zone, so statistically you are the sign that can expect the most proposals and romantic celebrations, however if your birthday falls on or near the 7th or 19th September relationships are at make or break point, so be careful how you handle events during the mid-period of February. (Be careful what you wish for sort of thing.) On the 14th, your ruler, Mercury, turns retrograde and this could have the effect of knocking the wind out of your sails. You may be short of energy and thus looking at that proverbial glass and believing it to be half empty. Once you have your vim and vigour back life will look a lot more promising. And with March's extraordinary astro-scape ahead the more well-rested and emotionally-centred you are by the end of February, the better!

1st March 2007 - 31st March 2007

What can you say about a month that has two eclipses in it, the first of which is not only a total lunar but conjunct/opposition lively Uranus, and the second, a partial solar, which squares Pluto? I'd say it's one of those periods in which matters that have been rumbling underground for some while erupt with the force of a minor volcano! March is a very cleansing month: think de-tox and de-clutter, whether in terms of our homes and our offices or in regard to our opinions and belief systems. The periods around the eclipses (3rd and 19th) are the most dynamic or disruptive, depending on your perspective, and the final ten days with its heavy concentration of Saturn are the most hard work. Could we have an announcement about a forthcoming wedding for Prince William and Kate Middleton? Very possibly. And will events in the Middle East be the cause of even greater consternation? Almost certainly.

The lunar eclipse of the 2nd/3rd is in your sign so the themes of closure and completion are writ large in this month's stars. And with Uranus in the picture the way chapters begin and end could be very sudden and surprising. The relationship axis bears the brunt of all this planetary activity so while some Virgos will be tempted to throw up a safe and secure lifestyle in order to follow a dream - or the person of their dreams - others will be dealing with the effects of other people's actions and decisions, whether they be partners, friends, family or organizations. The period of the 8th -17th contains some golden moments, which may manifest as great opportunities, a celebration or a chance to regroup, reconsider and relaunch.

The solar eclipse of the 19th falls in the zone of relationships and with Pluto in tow the second half of March looks to be a time when all the aforementioned themes of de-cluttering and de-toxing are highly appropriate for you. You may come to understand that a person in your life has a negative effect on you so rather than continue being undermined you need to bring an end to the relationship. It seems that you are being tested and while it is your nature to analyse and act with discretion you may be surprised how good it feels to make a stand, to be uncompromising and unequivocal. March is going to be a seminal month for almost all Virgos: what happens sets in motion a chain of events that will alter the shape of your life or put you back on a path that you have strayed away from.

1st April 2007 - 30th April 2007

With planet Uranus in full throttle this month life, and particularly your love life, will be anything but dull. Around the 2nd and the weekend of the 28th you may receive information which alters the shape and texture of a working or intimate relationship. Now, this could be anything from a change in a partner's job situation to someone alerting you to the true state of his or her feelings. Especially if you have a birthday on or near the 11th September there is a general trend this year for other people to be the catalysts of change, and while at the time the prospect of the new and the different may seem rather scary, in the long run you will benefit from any changes, and you'll certainly ride out the storm! Of course, Uranus is just as capable of bringing someone new and fantastic into your life - either way, April looks to be a month of heart-thumping moments.

And while we're on the subject of relationships... Feisty Mars enters the area of love and relating on the 6th thereby beginning a five-week period when other people will not be backward in coming forward. In some cases this will mean you discover you have a genuine admirer, in others sex will make a major come-back (maybe it never left...) and for a few a serious competitor, even an outright enemy, will appear. In the event of the latter, do not fight fire with fire but focus on being the better person.

Finances are another area of deep interest. On the one hand this is a premium month to discuss finances with partners, banks and lending institutions and, on the other, you could benefit from unexpected gifts and bonuses. The purchase or sale of a property could be another reason that you're in the money and, even if you continue to feel somewhat concerned about your financial situation, by making moves on or around the 10th and 19th , whether these are along the lines of talking to the right people or making investments, you will improve your position.

1st May 2007 - 31st May 2007

Far horizons beckon. The sun is passing through the zone related to long distance travel, higher education and belief systems and you may be considering your options to broaden your horizons via any of the above routes. Health and lifestyle issues are also in the picture. For some months now, you may have been struggling to achieve a better life/work balance, whilst never quite reaching your objective. A sense of frustration, ennui or disappointment may zap your energies yet even when you rest you seem unable to relax or enjoy time out. This is particularly irritating for you, Virgo, perfectionist that you are, and to make matters worse, tensions may well arise within your relationships as a result. The Saturn-Neptune opposition, which has been in play since August last year, is largely responsible for this ongoing dilemma, and with the sun and Mercury squaring this opposition during the period of the 5th- 14th May an opportunity should arise to resolve this conundrum and find the balance you are seeking.

Saturn and Neptune are not the only planets of note at work during the week of the 7th. Pluto and Uranus are also in play and doing their usual job of awakening you to realities that you may or may not wish to know about - and especially if you have one of those birthdays on or near the 11th or 19th September. With Mars in the area of relating (also known as the house of open enemies) other people will not be backward in coming forward when it comes to fighting for their rights or making themselves heard, so in order to avoid a head-on collision (and during that week) you may have to back down. Of course, these same aspects could amount to a break-through of sorts, whether after months of effort you get a result or a situation finally goes your way.

From the 16th life becomes less intense and with the new moon encouraging you to cast your net a little further from the shore you may consider that getting away from it all more often is a good idea. Beginning a course of study would also give you a healthy outlet for your prodigious mental energy and this could include a new philosophy to help you make sense of the world.

1st June 2007 - 30th June 2007

With the sun moving through the area of career and life goals you can forget about putting your feet up and watching the clouds pass by - you've got people to see, places to go and mountains to climb. And with Mercury turning retrograde on the 15th the sooner you get behind certain plans and ambitions, the better. You are helped in your quest for success this month by Uranus, Jupiter and Pluto: while Uranus may bring sudden, unexpected change (5th-9th), Jupiter creates opportunity (3rd - 5th) and Pluto eliminates those things that are holding you back (15th - 19th). So, don't be surprised if you experience a sudden urge to leave your job, move house or tell someone who has been particularly trying to take a hike - it's all part of this overall pattern of change and transformation.

Venus will be moving through the obscure twelfth house so a relationship may well shift gear leading you to worry about its future. Consider June a time of transition - you have no idea where a situation is leading but you must have the courage to take your hands off the wheel. Your greater focus should be on life-goals and career this month - let love look after itself!

The Saturn Neptune opposition of the 25th highlights the health axis of your solar chart and, because of the accompanying aspects mentioned earlier, it may be time to review your life-style and consider the benefits of a make-over. This might translate as a new diet and exercise regime, a new treatment for a chronic condition, even some elective surgery. Then again, a life-style make-over might be inspired by changes elsewhere in your life. On the 24th Mars enters the area of far horizons, just in time to remind you that the world is a big place, and it's about time you took off to foreign parts or broadened your circle of friends and contacts.

1st July 2007 - 31st July 2007

This month you may be called upon to offer your services to someone in need. You are, of course, the perfect person to offer practical help should the need arise. If it’s a question of domestic or clerical aid, there are few more fitted to the task than you and you will be more than happy to come to the rescue of anyone who needs your help. Another possible scenario for you this month, however, is that you could feel some deep longing to re-connect with someone. On the 9th, Venus trines Pluto and the very next day, Mercury (ruler) goes direct in your house of friendship. It could be, therefore, that you make contact with an old friend around this time, which has a very positive effect on the way you feel. The sun, incidentally, is transiting your friendship zone this month and the new moon is also in that area, so if there are any friends who have fallen off the radar or who are in some kind of crisis, now would be the time to become friends re-united.

On the 23rd the sun enters your twelfth solar house, once again accentuating the theme of service and self-sacrifice. Even Venus, after putting in a tantalisingly brief appearance in your own sign, goes retrograde on the 27th. Thus, just when you thought it might be time for some fun and romance the stars are saying, "No...not yet!" Don’t be downhearted if you feel you are moving in reverse gear with one particular project. By the end of next month you will be claiming your well-deserved place in the sun. In the meantime carry on storing up mega loads of brownie points, admire your glowing halo and continue to help those whose need is greatest.

1st August 2007 - 31st August 2007

Each year at thus time the sun transits the most mysterious part of your horoscope, rendering you more vulnerable to the vicissitudes of life. In an ideal world, you'd be on a spiritual retreat or at least taking the time to replenish your physical and emotional stores which have been drained by the events of the past year. But if you have to shoulder the usual professional and domestic responsibilities do at least try the three-D treatment - delegate, defer and de-tox! If you are recovering from a spell of medical treatment you may be pleasantly surprised by how much you enjoy the excuse to put your feet up and do nothing at all. You are probably the hardest working sign of the zodiac and the least likely to treat yourself to a duvet day. Take advantage of this opportunity to pamper yourself a little and discover how much better you feel for it. Relaxing massages, herbal remedies and spa treatments are all things which might benefit you during this period. Reading self-help books could also give you ideas for tackling any problems you face, so explore a little and unwind.

As I mentioned in my general forecast August is not the lightest and brightest of months, so if you cut down your expectations of having a wild old time you won't be disappointed. There could be some concerns over the future of a job or a relationship but until and unless you have solid evidence that rumours are true, remain detached and positive. The period before Saturn enters your sign (which it will do on 2nd September) is often a time of dark doubts and irrational fears.

By far the most important astrological event of August is the total lunar eclipse of the 28th. This eclipse harks back to one six months earlier so it may be that plans laid in March reach fruition in late August/early September. However, the added input of a Mercury-Uranus opposition suggests that there is a surprise element to events at this time. Someone may change his or her mind and pull out of an arrangement, or you may be on the receiving end of an unexpected proposal. Especially if you have a birthday on or near 10 September this period of the year contains enormous change, almost certainly brought about by the actions of other people. Get ready to rock and roll!

1st September 2007 - 30th September 2007

This is a rather momentous month for you: on the 2nd, Saturn enters your sign marking the beginning of a two-year period of huge personal growth (and we're not talking clothes size here!). Saturn is not exactly a bed of roses as far as planets go, and you may feel the burdens of responsibility weigh more heavily on your shoulders in the coming months. If nothing else this planet brings wisdom in his wake. Yet Saturn isn't all trials and tribulations: you can rise to top positions career-wise and make long-term commitments, which will add to your happiness and prestige. Saturn’s presence in your sign will, slowly but surely, re-shape the structure of your existence and turn it into something stronger and more durable. You, of course, are an earth sign and have your feet firmly grounded in reality; because of this you are well suited to learn the lessons which this planet has to teach.

This month, not only Saturn, but Uranus, Pluto and a solar eclipse promise to inject plenty of diversity into life. It may be that children are heading off to new schools, or leaving the nest, which, while freeing you up will also generate some sadness and anxiety; on the other hand there could be changes in your job, or that of a partner, which shake up your timetable and your plans. The periods around the 3rd, 9th, and 11th are notable for their capacity to produce the unexpected and the unusual. Pluto's work is being done on or near the 3rd and 19th and since this planet's key principle is transformation, especially if you have a birthday around these dates, something looks set to look very different for you by the end of the year. This would be an excellent time to embark on home alterations or head into counselling for a relationship in trouble.

The solar eclipse of the 11th is in your sign, which gives it an extra bit of umph! A new twelve-month cycle is beginning and it may come in with a surprise. Eclipses set events in motion which tend to come to fruition six to twelve months hence, so keep a close eye on who and what sets off your radar at this time.

All in all, September is a month of watersheds and epiphanies. Have the courage to break out of situations that are compromising your gifts and should the cosmos do the job for you, don't panic or rail against the fates but look for the opening it has surely created for you.

1st October 2007 - 31st October 2007

On paper October seems a fairly uneventful month but probe a little deeper and you may find that what happens during the course of the next few weeks is pivotal to your long term plans. Until the 23rd the sun will be focusing on the area of self-worth: this is a period when you can add to your financial lot and certainly examine ways of improving your monetary position. The spiritual law of prosperity should be invoked - in other words, expect money to come pouring in, visualize a season of plenty and wait for signals that you are indeed on the right track. The new moon of the 11th could be instrumental in producing a new source of income or another way around a pressing financial matter.

Perhaps the most important transit of the month is that of Venus, which will remain in your sign until 8th November. This planet made a previous visit between the 14th July and 8th August so you may find that a relationship that petered out in August regains its energy and passion or that your feelings which cooled for a project or plan return with a vengeance. When Venus transits your sign all her properties of harmony, love, beauty and balance stream into your existence so don't be surprised if you suddenly decide on a personal or domestic make-over, or you begin to notice just how many attractive people there are on the planet. During October Venus will angle Saturn (weekend of the 13th) Uranus (25th) and Jupiter (29th) all of which will bring out different facets of relationships. Venus-Saturn links reveal the weaknesses in partnerships and sometimes coincide with a decision to end the affair, albeit temporarily, yet this can also be a time when long-term bonds are made. Venus-Uranus aspects are exhilarating - they make for sudden attractions and overnight decisions regarding relationships. And last but not least Venus-Jupiter connections evoke the joy of love and are perfect for a kiss-and-make-up exercise or declaring your undying love for someone. Ah... What a perfect way to end the month.

1st November 2007 - 30th November 2007

Travel and communication are writ large in the stars this month. Mercury, your ruler, governs such matters and, since this planet resumes direct motion on the 1st, you should feel much more comfortable in your skin than in the previous few weeks. Obstacles to your progress should now melt away and if of late you have felt misunderstood or unheard this too should change. Indeed, faith should be restored all round and you will be able to make appointments and arrange meetings or trips with confidence.

Venus heads out of your sign on the 8th but before she goes she makes an all-important connection to Pluto. This is the stuff of passion and all-or-nothing gestures so, especially if you have a birthday on or near 19th September, think before you jump in the deep end. An affair begun in early to mid November will transform your life; likewise, if you're in an inappropriate relationship events at this time will help you extricate yourself. And in general, this period is one when decisions are made – and probably for you. Venus continues her good works in the area of finances for the rest of the month making this an ideal time to request a salary raise and to seek ways in which to add to your bank balance.

Towards the end of November a combination of a full moon on the axis of life-direction (24th) and a sun-Saturn square (30th) closes a small or large chapter, first and foremost on the home front and second in regard to your career. The sun's angle to Saturn will be the first test of Saturn's passage through your sign, so your efforts could be rewarded at this time or you may experience a rejection or disappointment of sorts. Those of you with August birthdays are in the frame here, but whenever your birthday, late November is the moment to get all your ducks in a row.

1st December 2007 - 31st December 2007

If you were expecting December to be uneventful, think again. It's almost as if the major planets have been rehearsing all year for this spectacular performance. As usual at this time, the sun is at the lowest point in your solar chart, so it is encouraging you to look within and to focus on the home and family. However, a Jupiter-Pluto conjunction is a once-in-thirteen year event so, especially if you have a birthday on or near the 19th September, you are on the crest of some very big developments indeed. Wonderful breakthroughs and brilliant achievements can be the result of this conjunction, but so too are intense power struggles and, if you've been trying to hold a situation together with a wing and a prayer, it probably won't survive this December. Nonetheless, what comes or goes this month is in your absolute best interests, even though you may have difficulty believing this at the time.

Some Virgos may have decided to move house before Christmas (or shortly afterwards) while others will be redesigning the home and catering to some new and old faces. It is time to say goodbye to some aspect of your existence, even if this means, dropping a few names off your Christmas card list and a few bad eating habits. Rather more seriously, there could be rifts or other reasons why someone is no longer gracing your circle of friends and family. But then, baggage of some description needs to be shed to keep you full of light.

On the 18th, Jupiter enters your fellow earth sign, Capricorn, where it will remain for the coming year. And since Saturn in your sign will be harmoniously linked to Jupiter, efforts will be rewarded and there will be a big pay off to any difficulty borne - and there will be great joys to come. 2008 promises to be a boom year for creative endeavours, and for a few Virgos, this will already be apparent around New Year.

And speaking of New Year... Mars and Pluto welcome in 2008 so this is not the moment to press someone's very sensitive buttons nor to be among crowds of people you do not know. Passion is wonderful confined to an intimate relationship but it can be a dangerous thing when fuelled by anger or alcohol. Just a small point to watch in a month of extraordinary highs and lows.

1st January 2008 - 31st January 2008

Do not judge the rest of the year by the events of the opening week. This is a less than easy entry into the new year for all the signs so the more philosophical and optimistic you can be the better. The Mars-Pluto opposition of the 2nd continues the process begun during the middle of December so you may find that a situation you put on hold returns to be dealt with decisively or that you continue to feel somewhat overwhelmed by a certain matter and are more than ready for push to come to shove as January gets under way. There is something entirely therapeutic about Mars-Pluto connections, whether a good purge on the home front leaves everything spanking clean or because you get rid of feelings that have been festering for rather too long. The 19th -21st September birthdays are in the frame here but, whenever you were born, the first week of January is all about eliminating what you don$t need. Not only Pluto but also Saturn has a part to play in astrological affairs during the opening week. Venus-Saturn connections put the glue in relationships and they make real what has previously been but a sketchy outline. On the plus side, therefore, you can cement an agreement, put a relationship on solid ground but, on the minus side, you may have to accept that something simply isn$t working and it might be better to put it out of its misery.

The full moon of the 22nd highlights the health axis of your solar chart and in the process reveals where your mind, body and spirit has experienced too much wear and tear. A good de-tox could be one solution, a radical overview of what you eat and your exercise programme (you do have one, don$t you?) may be another. And if you have a serious health concern January is the time to sort it.

Ruler, Mercury, turns retrograde on the 28th jamming up the information highway and generally making getting from A to B somewhat tortuous. Therefore, do your best to get ahead with the paperwork and don$t allow yourself to become too frustrated or despondent should mis-connections proliferate and people fail to return your calls. It$s part of life, not all of it!

1st February 2008 - 29th February 2008

You have an excellent work ethic, Virgo, which you can put to good use in February. Should you have been job hunting a new position could be found and in general problems at work can be addressed and resolved. The solar eclipse of the 7th starts a fresh cycle for career matters - actually, it starts a fresh cycle for your lifestyle as a whole - so a project begun at this time or a plan brought into being should make a positive difference to your life. We'll talk about the second eclipse in a moment... Of course, February brings matters of love and romance into the picture and with Venus and Jupiter in the zone of pleasure, creativity and romance, you may well have a reason to feel elated this Valentine's Day. On the other hand, the total lunar eclipse of the 21st falls on the relationship axis and is close to Saturn, which although symbolic of the legalizing of a union, such as marriage, is also representative of an ending. There was a similar eclipse at the end of August last year so there may well be a link between the events of that time and those of late February/early March. My feelings are that whatever emerges in the way of a lesson or an exercise in reality should be accepted as joyfully as possible, and in the knowledge that karma is being worked out.

1st March 2008 - 31st March 2008

The total lunar eclipse of the 21st February set March's events rolling. Perhaps you know already what I mean - you have big dates in your diary and the preparations are reaching fever pitch. And with romantic Venus in the relationship zone from the 12th onwards, maybe those preparations are all about weddings and engagements. Certainly, relationships are to the fore, whether you are over-the-moon happy or reaching for the box of tissues. The new moon of the 7th begins a new year-long cycle for your love life and, with a Mars-Pluto opposition on the same day, this is an ideal moment to throw out those strategies that simply don't work or distance yourself from people who are nothing but hard work! March brings simmering issues to boiling point - watch the periods around the 8th, 15th and 28th - and while some of those issues may relate to finances, family or work, they are more likely to revolve around love. Some Virgoans will be unable to resist a passionate fling, while a few will be meeting the person with whom they'll spend the rest of their lives, and you can safely say there's nothing accidental happening this March - fate and destiny have a big part to play in your life.

1st April 2008 - 30th April 2008

For the first half of the month money matters occupy the spotlight - or at least they should... This is one of the best months of 2008 to sort out finances, especially those of a joint nature, and if you are worried about money, it's time to talk turkey with partners and to find ingenious ways around financial potholes with the help of appropriate professional bodies. For a few Virgos, there will be excellent financial developments - a favourable settlement, an unexpected windfall or a partner's job development that means extra money all round. And if you are one of those suffering from the money blues, take comfort in the knowledge that a Grand Trine is at work ensuring that your long term prospects are good. In fact, another feature of these stars is that actions taken in April, especially those that involve a temporary cut-back and extra work, will be the very stuff of growth in the future. From the 19th distant places loom into view, whether this is the start of a period of travel and dialogues with people far from home or because you are beginning to see beyond the current dramas and dilemmas, and what you see is good.

1st May 2008 - 31st May 2008

There's a lot to be said for putting distance between you and your concerns, and, of course, there's much to recommend getting away from familiar ground and tasting more exotic fare - all of which you may do in May. Indeed, this is the month for travel, holidays and making plans for such things in the future. As with April, the alignments are largely harmonious so although this doesn't mean everything in life will be perfect it does suggest that you can make real progress and that favourable outcomes can be expected, even if you have to wait awhile to realize this. Saturn, currently in your sign, turns direct on the 3rd so from this point you may find that a difficulty is reversed or that the opposition and/or delays you have experienced with a situation begin to fade out. This first week of May and that of the 19th may well produce a result of some description; should you not get all you want and more, gain some distance and try to see the situation from a very different perspective - that way a new approach may appear. On the 26th Mercury performs a reverse thrust so try to get all your ducks in a row before that date.

1st June 2008 - 30th June 2008

June is an important month for your future, both in terms of where your personal ambitions lie and your career. Until the 19th, Mercury will be retrograding in the area of career and life-goals so your progress will be slower than expected and there could be all manner of complications with legal matters, business issues and anything of a bureaucratic nature. However, you must simply press on because you will get there in the end, plus a retrograde Mercury often helps you discover something hiding in the woodwork. Pluto and Uranus are not coming to aid of the party mid-month: these two planets will be revealing the opposition to your perfect plans and encouraging you to look in new directions for the results you require. There is a huge amount of change in the picture between the 9th and 21st, which may translate as upheaval on the home front or in regard to work. Whatever the dramas and detours, however, there's nothing that cannot be fixed with a philosophical attitude and friends in the right places.

1st July 2008 - 31st July 2008

You may be one of the most capable and self-sufficient signs of the zodiac but even you have to admit that life is vastly improved by the presence of good people around you. A factor of which you should be made acutely aware this month. There is a strong accent on collaboration and creativity, which in some cases will lead to the beginning of a new work project and in others the putting together of a social or child-oriented event. Babies and children figure in your stars so, if you've been wondering whether to start or add to your family, you have the planetary thumbs-up. Mars will be in your sign, which is both a blessing and a curse: a blessing in that you'll have more energy than you know what to do with and a curse in that conflicts will seem to be breaking out left, right and centre. On the 10th Mars hooks up to Saturn signalling a reality-check and urging you to make a decision based on the facts not on hopes or fears. There is an aura of confrontation surrounding this entire week, which is a serious plus if you need to sort out a major carbuncle but a minus should you require unconditional love! From the 22nd, a retreat is recommended and certainly gaining some distance and perspective on one or more issues.

1st August 2008 - 31st August 2008

Normally this period of the year is a 'quiet' one – a time of retreat and reflection, holiday time – but not so this year. The planetary alignments plus the eclipses of the 1st and 16th guarantee events will get your attention. Nonetheless, since the sun will be closeted in the hermit-like twelfth house you may not have all the facts at your disposal and you could be operating on two cylinders, so to speak, instead of four. So, you will need to avoid making snap judgements and pushing yourself beyond your limits – every which way. This is an ideal period for your annual check-up and to bring forward any dental or health appointments: likewise, if you've been planning to take off/add a few pounds or start an exercise programme, August is your month. But back to those powerful alignments. Virgo is not a sign that puts the blinkers on: you face problems and get to work on them. However, when it comes to emotional issues you tend to act the martyr or head into denial mode. And this you won't be able to do this month. Aspects on or near the 6th, 13th, 23rd and 29th promote confrontations, whether these involve recognizing your own true feelings or accepting a stark reality. And, if you're worried about other people's role in your life, let's say you'll discover who people really are in August.

1st September 2008 - 30th September 2008

The month gets off to a solid start. During the first week the sun conjuncts Saturn in your own sign while trining Jupiter a recipe for success and for good things coming out of difficulties. This is an excellent week in which to begin anything new or to take any kind of action you hope will result in long term growth. By the 9th, Uranus, the mover and shaker of the planets, takes over from Saturn, creating somewhat unsettling conditions, even producing a bolt from the blue, most probably in regard to a relationship or someone with whom you work. If it is time for a change, then change will happen regardless of how you try to avert it, so trust in the cosmos... The mid-part of September helps you achieve closure, so this may coincide with the signing or exchanging of contracts or you may find that a commitment has run its course. On the 22nd, the sun enters the zone of money and self-worth thereby strengthening the already strong theme of adding to your value in material terms and boosting your confidence. Do your best to line all your ducks in a row before the 24th – with Mercury's retrograde turn life goes on a temporary go-slow.

1st October 2008 - 31st October 2008

According to the stars you've got money on your mind - you'd probably prefer to have money in the bank but at least you're actively dealing with finances! Events of the week of the 6th encourage you to think big, whether this applies to finances or your personal and romantic ambitions. So, if an opportunity arises to invest your time, emotions or money into a project, have the confidence to go for it. However, if an existing problem escalates at this time, cutting your losses could be the best option. The full moon of the 14th brings simmering situations to the boil, which in some cases means the time has come to clear the air and in others the moment has arrived to stop throwing good money after bad. Venus enters the zone of home and life-foundations on the 18th, thereby beginning a four week period in which your need to live in harmonious and pleasing surroundings becomes ever more pressing. Yes, you may get the decorators in or throw out an old sofa but the more important goal will be to find peace and harmony with loved ones. Make the most of your October stars, especially in regard to cutting down your overheads and drawing some lines in the sand, because November is a whole other story.

1st November 2008 - 30th November 2008

Good communications are the key to success and with the sun and Mars transiting the zone of travel and dialogue, it is down to you to put your ideas into action and to encourage other people to air their thoughts. You should be able to reach agreements and sign contracts this month and, one way or another, life is a journey. As I mentioned in my general forecast the highlight of November is the Saturn-Uranus opposition (an alignment you can read about in more detail elsewhere on Astrolutely). You have already felt the push-pull effect of these two planets, especially where relationships and your love-life are concerned, and you may find events on or around the 4th settle a matter once and for all. While there is a need for structure, order and stability in your life the acquisition of such things cannot be at the expense of freedom and growth. And it may be necessary to allow someone to go his or her own way at this point in the knowledge that you cannot lose what, or, rather, who, is right for you. Jupiter is at a very favourable angle to your sign at present so good things come out of difficulties and even if you cannot have everything you want there will be achievements this month. By the 27th you will have several planetary bodies gathered at the base of your horoscope so you will be beginning a new upwardly mobile cycle; it will be time to lay down foundations stones of one sort or another and there could be a huge amount of activity building in regard to family and property matters.

1st December 2008 - 31st December 2008

At this time each year the sun occupies the area of home, family and the foundations of life, so if you find yourself re- painting the house, moving even, and dealing intensively with your nearest and dearest you know why. Yet this year is somewhat different. Uranus and Saturn are in the picture generating unexpected stresses and not perhaps making you feel so light and bright about life and its prospects. The full moon of the 12th marks a peak of this trend, so if you come through that day with not a hair out of place and all your ducks in a row, count yourself blessed. Simmering situations reach boiling point under this full moon, but at least any crisis will clear the air and you should be able to make a fresh start. The sun and Mars will enter your fellow earth- sign of Capricorn on the 21st and 27th respectively so the latter part of December will be more to your liking and you should be able to have some fun, even find romance. Pluto's presence in this same sign will bring some very powerful new relationships into being, and anything that is born in the last ten days of December will have life- altering properties. Indeed, as you stand on the threshold of 2009, know that you are entering a whole other era.

1st January 2009 - 31st January 2009

Post Christmas isn't everyone's favourite time of year but with the sun and Mars in the fifth house – the playground of your solar chart – you could be in for some serious fun. This may include celebrations or holidays or it could herald the beginning of a new and fulfilling creative venture. Certainly, if you have an entrepreneurial spirit or even just an idea you'd like to bring into reality, January's stars can do much to help. Then there's romance and additions to the family, which could be another reason for high spirits. 2009 promises to be a year of growth on the work front, and you may see some signs of this in the second half of January. The solar eclipse of the 26th heralds a new phase for working life, whether this presages an unexpected change in your job situation or an opportunity that will add to your portfolio, and if a job comes to an end dig out your old filo-fax and reconnect with colleagues you once knew – there's buried treasure to be found by returning to the past. And if this sounds like Mercury-in-retrograde you'd be right: this planet lurches into reverse thrust on the 11th at the same time as a full moon so something looks set to take you back over old ground and to generally slow your progress. Nonetheless, the start to 2009 has its merits.

1st March 2009 - 31st March 2009

March puts relationships in the spotlight. Even if you don't have a hot romance or a relationship that appears to be at a crossroads, other people – their needs, feelings and actions – are going to have an impact on you this month. The Saturn-Uranus opposition, which has been flanking the relationship axis for some months, is alive and well and especially on or near the 6th, 11th, 13th and 22nd, the potential for upsets is high. Then again these same dates could just as easily bring someone into your life with whom you will have an intense, and possibly life-changing, relationship. (Karmic connections often come to light under a strong Saturn transit.) The full moon of the 11th is in your sign so while emotions will be running high you are nonetheless empowered. With this in mind, this may well be the right moment to tell someone how you truly feel or to bring to an end a situation that is not serving your best interests. There will be some Virgos for whom March is an absolutely brilliant month: papers will be signed and there will be events that require a celebration. As I mentioned earlier, Saturn and karma go hand in hand, and sometimes you get good karma, and sometimes a painful lesson.

1st April 2009 - 30th April 2009

Relationships and finances dominate your April stars. Until the 22nd Mars will be transiting the relationship sector, in some cases making for a hot and heavy few weeks and in others creating rather more friction than you might like. Under a Mars transit you discover who is your enemy: sometimes this is a real person but on many occasions it is an issue that is standing in the way of your progress and happiness. With this in mind, people and situations will act as mirrors, enabling you to see what needs to be confronted and changed. (Since Saturn in your sign is being triggered early in the month it is worth remembering that it is at such a time we often meet someone with whom we have a strong karmic link or encounter a situation that has karmic origins.) Mid-month puts Mars together with Uranus so expect the sparks to fly, whether you and another person are magically attracted or because a situation that has been in a delicate state for a while can no longer be sustained. Venus will return to the seventh house of relating between the 11th and 24th giving you an opportunity to mend a broken fence and set a relationship back on course. And should you meet someone new during this two-week period he or she could be a true love connection. The theme of confrontation and change applies to finances too and it may be that after some months of wrangling or waiting for answers a resolution takes place – the periods on or near the 4th, 9th and 26th could be highly significant here.

1st February 2009 - 28th February 2009

You've got your work cut out this month, by which I mean not only will you have your plate full but the most important developments could be related to your job. You have a full sixth house so there are opportunities to expand your work experience – this is an excellent period for job hunting and networking – however, since one of those planets is Neptune there is a risk of a disappointment, plus rumours could be doing the rounds. And this trend will be particularly evident on or near the 12th. Health of mind, body and spirit is another strong theme for February, and if you have any concerns whatever these should be checked out immediately. Otherwise, discover the inestimable value of meditation and yoga. The Saturn-Uranus opposition makes a come-back on the 5th, and you may find that events of early November play a part in those of this February. You have lived with Uranus in the partnership zone for some five years so you will have had more than your share of commitment-phobes and weird relationship developments, however, you should be getting a grip on the situation now, by which I mean you have learned that you cannot control what other people do, only what you do. Certainly, this first half of February is all about fate versus free will. On the 18th, the sun moves into the relationship zone and with a new moon there on the 25th, a new cycle is beginning; hopes should be high.

1st May 2009 - 31st May 2009

The ideal way to enjoy your May stars is to keep saying the word: Manyana... A combination of astrological factors, not least Mercury retrograde, slows down the pace of life and encourages you to be more reflective. While there could be situations that demand an instant response, if someone threatens to back out of an agreement or emotionally blackmails you, let them do their worst. What is true and good will hold firm. On the 17th Saturn, currently in your sign, turns direct so there will be a subtle shift in a matter that has caused you concern over the past four to five months. Take note of events at this time because they are indicators of a much longer and stronger pattern in the making. This having been said, if you feel you are still in limbo or receiving conflicting pieces of information, it may be that someone has got their sums wrong or is deliberately concealing the truth. Health requires a little more care and you could be extra sensitive to certain treatments and medicines. Finally, the new moon of the 24th signals a fresh development on the work front within two to four weeks.

1st June 2009 - 30th June 2009

After the go-slow-and-stop that was May, June sees you making progress. This is a particularly good month for setting career wrongs to rights and for getting your material world in shape. On or near the 5th Saturn steps in, either to expose a problem or enable you to set a situation in cement. This would be an excellent date upon which to sign on the dotted line and to make a long-term commitment, and if joy is in short supply, it hasn't gone forever. The full moon of the 7th, like all full moons, ends small or large chapters, and if you're leaving a job or moving home, you'll know you're in-synch with your stars. The 17th finds Uranus centre stage so if goalposts start moving or a relationship hits a pothole, don't try to enforce order but allow change to happen and new directions to emerge. The last week of June raises passions – hopefully in a romantic way, but if events bring a situation to the edge, see it as a good thing. So often what we want isn't right for us.

1st July 2009 - 31st July 2009

You're in a very outgoing phase of the year, whether you're focusing on your career and material ambitions or making the most of your free time and activities you positively enjoy. There is travel for some, the making of grand plans for others – well, plans at least – and romance could be back on the agenda, perhaps through a visit to a distant place or on a journey. The two eclipses (7th and 22nd) highlight the creative axis of your solar chart so there could be news of a birth and/or the beginning of a professional or personal venture. Eclipses herald change, so this is not the month to nurture hard-set ideas about the way situations will work out; it is the time to be brave and bold with your ideas and to go with your heart. Ever since Saturn and Uranus have been at cross purposes relationships have been a source of pleasure or pain, and if your love life has been a flat line and all your working and family relationships are perfectly in tact, maybe you'll have something new to think about during the week of the 20th. This is certainly a week when discoveries can be made – discoveries that alter your opinion of someone and reveal the real nature of a situation.

1st August 2009 - 31st August 2009

Each year until the sun enters your sign (22nd) it passes through the reclusive twelfth house which makes you feel more vulnerable and less inclined to be the life and soul of the party. Thus, if you have a packed schedule you're likely to drain your batteries, aggravate existing health problems and generally run yourself into the ground. You'll also be a lot more sensitive to criticism and more easily wound up by certain individuals! The answer is to seek lots of rest and alone time, and forget all about being the caretaker of the zodiac. The upside of this transit is that your dream life could be wonderful and listening to the voice of your intuition should only prove helpful. To complicate matters this year, however, Mars, the planet of ambition and drive, is in high focus so it could be a case of driving your car of life with the accelerator pressed down hard and the hand-brake on. And this effect will be most apparent between the 6th and 15th when Mars will be angling Saturn. You'll get your fair share of reality checks at this time and your enthusiasm and confidence will be easily zapped. Then again, if you want to set something in cement this is the period in which to do so. On or near the 19th expect some changes to your itinerary and be open to alternatives; plus, don't trust to luck when it comes to dodgy appliances and any kind of machinery. The weekend of the 22nd is one of the nicest of the year – perfect for any kind of gathering and making any long term decisions.

1st September 2009 - 30th September 2009

You are drawing towards the end of a mini term of trial. Perhaps you have had just a little too much of the family, or maybe you are so over being the one carrying all the responsibilities, but just a little bit longer, and you'll be home free. It is the Saturn-Uranus opposition that is causing such a headache for so many Virgos: Saturn in your sign makes you feel more anxious and as a result you want to be able to rely on those things that have stood you in good stead for years. However, those pillars, whether they be belief systems, people, jobs or strategies are no longer guaranteed to support you, and you have to replace them with alternatives. The period of the 14th -24th is one such time when the old rules no longer seem to apply and you are forced to look at certain individuals and situations with a new pair of eyes. You cannot change other people, you cannot alter a rubber-stamped decision, but you can change your attitude and there is a future – a good future – without those things. By contrast, September could produce a badly needed break and it could introduce you to a new and fascinating person, but, either way, there must be changes. That Mercury is retrograde certainly complicates the situation: there will be some mixed-messages to sort out and anything of a bureaucratic nature will take time; the upside, however, could be that you get a second chance and people from your past could turn out to be made of gold.

1st October 2009 - 31st October 2009

What you want, what you have and what you're prepared to do to meet your targets are central issues for October. The area of self-worth is in the main-frame, so events will tend to reveal how much other people value you. Of course, the real issue is how much you value yourself... The moment you start to doubt a relationship, don't seek reassurances from the other person but go into your heart and feel the strength of your own feelings: you'll probably find it's your lack of trust that is causing the problem. Likewise, if you worry that someone isn't appreciating your efforts just focus on the work itself – approval will follow. This is not to say that you will be immune to the Saturn-Uranus syndrome, which involves old patterns reaching an end – sometimes very abruptly – but you should have acquired a rhinoceros skin by now when it comes to dealing with sudden set-backs. The periods on or near the 8th and 13th require careful negotiation. Saturn leaves your sign on the 29th – yes, this is cause for celebration, although this planet will head back into Virgo from April until July next year – and he is leaving you older and wiser! The trick is to take the positive from those difficult life lessons and to leave bitterness and regret behind. From this point on your greatest focus should be on building a sound financial base, which may involve working for yourself, and certainly relying on yourself, for making and handling money.
