Nostradamus wasn't just an astrologer but a mystic who used altered states of consciousness to see into the future; so ingenious were his predictions that they are still the subject of considerable fascination today. Many people assume all astrologers see the future played out against the background of the stars, like scenes on a movie screen, but in truth most of us are more like analysts scrutinizing patterns and interpreting figures – in this case numbers in an ephemeris.
